My name Is Michael Airington. I'm an actor /writer /producer who has managed successfully to make a modest career in show business for forty years.
Some of you will know me as that inimitable and wacky Jewish matron of ceremonies , Comedian , Cabaret star, You-tube star , Social media Guru , as far back as MYSPACE ... “Ester Goldberg.”
Last week, however, I was suddenly and unceremoniously fired from my own show at a notable hotel on the Las Vegas Strip by individuals who were producing my show there.
It was a show that I created, co-produced, and starred in. I even procured the venue, and spent over a year arranging the details with hotel execs in order to facilitate this amazing entertainment opportunity.
Ester Goldberg’s TOTALLY OUTRAGEOUS BRUNCH was a dream come true for me and my abrupt dismissal as the show’s central performer came out of nowhere; I was completely blindsided!
After 12 arduous months of painstaking arrangements, rehearsals, a stellar Las Vegas opening, and over 30 successful performances, I was abruptly informed by my co-producers that “Ester” would no longer be part of a successful Las Vegas show that I was responsible for creating!
For those of you who don’t know, “Ester Goldberg” is a character like Tyler Perry’s “Madea” and Barry Humphries’ “Dame Edna,” which I have been performing professionally for over twenty-five years.
In fact, “Ester” has become a major lifeline for me as an entertainer. I have been able to pay my rent and my bills, to eat and survive because of this remarkable character! Google “Ester Goldberg” and you will learn more about this wonderful, wacky, curmudgeonly old gal and her show business history.
To add insult to injury, on June 5, I was curtly notified by the producers that, because of our previous contract, they now own a majority stake in “Ester Goldberg,” and that I could no longer make decisions, accept work, or perform my character without their approval.
Yes, that’s right, according to these guys; I can no longer be “Ester” without their consent!
I have subsequently been served with a “cease and desist” letter and threatened with litigation if I do.
Obviously, I must get my character back and, in order to do this, I will need to deal with attorney fees and court costs. I will also need to pay my rent and bills as this unfortunate affair has left me broke!
Honestly, it takes a lot humility for me to ask for your help like this but “Ester Goldberg” is my life’s work and for anyone to coldly hold my character hostage is both reprehensible and heartbreaking for me!
For the record, I have been honored by our nation’s capital and been the only Drag adjacent character to ever host on the red carpet at the Academy awards. Moreover, I have been one of only two such performers to headline in a major hotel on the Las Vegas Strip.
Most importantly, I have poured my heart and soul into this character. “Ester” is simply a part of me.
I need to fight this assault upon my character and my career. Fortunately, the legal facts are in my favor and, with the best legal help I can muster, I am confident that I can rescue “Ester” from this awful peril.
I will be deeply and forever grateful and indebted for any amount you can contribute to help me to this!
