Help us stay in Vancouver WA

Donation protected

We moved down to Vancouver WA almost 3 years ago from Snohomish, Wa so our daughter who is blind and entering highschool could attend The school for the blind here. My husband transfered and our other two daughters uprooted everything without pause to help their sister find her place in this community. To allow her to be comfortable and get a great education while being able to surround herself with others that go through the same struggles that she has too in everyday life. There is a light in her now that shines so brightly.
The last 2 years the housing market has really just rocketed to outrageous prices causing owners to raise rents to outrageous prices which in turn has people frantically trying to buy up properties. Causing
Almost a double of housing prices. A lot of times sellers getting more then they ask days after being on the market for a few days.
My husband is a disabled vet that works in law enforcement here in Vancouver. We have been looking for a house for over a year with no luck. We compete against cash buyers and conventional buyers that have fewer restrictions than VA loans. At times we have put offers in there has been up to 20 offers on a single house. As Veterans know as soon as the house goes over value we are eliminated unless we can make up the difference out of pocket. Which we cannot. We have $7000 saved and in order to keep our payments under $1500 we can't exceed 250,000. We are in the most popular price point competing against hundreds to thousands for a handful of houses. It has been a uphill battle from day one. Our rent will be increasing yet again in June and our oldest daughter is going into her Senior year and our little one will be starting her first year all in September. The places we can find in our price point in this market are so far away our daughter would be forced to move into the school and only return home on weekends. The only other option is her giving up everything that is important to here and going back into the public school system far away. We do not want that to happen. So Like I said we have been fighting this battle for over a year and we are almost out of time. When our rent incresses our saving will start to decrease as will our dreams of staying here and of purchasing a safe and permanent house for our children. So im asking for our communities help in finding that home and putting us on more equal ground with the other buyers. Even if it's just advice or prayers. It all is appreciated and helps. Thanks for listening everyone!! God bless all of you that took the time to read this!! Kim (mom)
