Help us save Peanut Butter

Donation protected
Hello everyone!

My partner and I recently adopted two cats that were passed down by their original owners at our last neighborhood. Their owners moved out of the neighborhood approximately 6 years ago and left both cats behind on the street. My partner began to take care of them by putting a bowl of food and water outside every day. Other neighbors also took interest in the cats and would help take care of them. Last month, 5 years later, we decided to move out of the neighborhood and officially adopt the cats. We got them both chipped they have been enjoying the new home and beautiful backyard where they get to roam around safely.

On Wednesday July 11th we noticed that one of the cats, peanut butter, looked very sick and would howl any time he would move. We rushed peanut butter to the vet where, after a series of tests, the vet informed us he might have to be put down if we didn’t move forward with medical intervention.

What happened was: Peanut butter had developed a urinary infection that flared so quickly his kidneys began to shut down and his potassium levels got so high that it was beginning to affect his heart.  We asked  the vet to do whatever was necessary to save his life while being conscientious of cost, as my partner works in a non profit and I am going to school for my Teaching Credential. The vets have been helpful in working within our budget, but unfortunately there is only so much they can do and as of today, $3,700 later our budget is officially drained.

Today peanut butter is still in the emergency room at PETS berkeley where he is beginning to feel better, however he is still unable to pee on his own. The issue at present is the following: it is very likely that he will need surgery this coming Monday, I've spoken to the vet and his chances of having a better quality of life, and life expectancy are higher after surgery. However, as I mentioned before our funds have been drained over the last couple of days. Surgery is approximately $4,000, we are hoping to raise enough money to have the surgery done on Monday, or at least enough money to be able to keep him under medical care until we have enough money for the surgery. If we are unable to come up with the money, unfortunately Peanut Butter will have to be put down, given that if his urinary problem persists and we are unable to provide him with medical care, he would be in a lot of pain and discomfort.

Anything will help as it will allow us to keep him comfortable and healthy.

Thank you, We truly appreciate you.
