I’m Carol Smock, and I founded Brown Dog Foundation after Chocolate Chip, my chocolate Labrador retriever, was euthanized while struggling with Lymphosarcoma – a disease requiring treatment I couldn’t afford while unemployed.

 Since 2006, Brown Dog Foundation has provided funding for families lacking the ability to immediately access required funds to treat a sick dog or cat likely to respond to necessary medical treatment. Our 501(c)(3) public charity receives an average of 375 requests for assistance each month but under present funding is only able to fulfill around 4% of all requests for help with potentially lifesaving treatment. ·      IMPOVERISHED – Brown Dog Foundation helps fund potentially lifesaving treatment for a dog or cat – treatment a family or individual would be unable to fully pay for without our assistance. Each year, we give the gift of medical treatment assistance to those struggling with chronic financial hardship.

·      WORKING-CLASS – Many dog and cat owners can fund potentially lifesaving treatment for a dog or cat over time, but can’t come up with a large lump sum payment on a short schedule. In these cases, we pay the veterinary clinic in full so treatment can proceed, and pet owners repay us in affordable installments via our partnership with VetBilling.

·      TEMPORARILY DISADVANTAGED – Each year, we’re approached by people who were, until recently, earning a good or even great living. But suddenly their income was reduced to a weekly unemployment check. Their earnings will go back up. In the meantime, through our partnership with VetBilling, we offer a repayment plan so treatment can proceed.

·      IN NEED OF GUIDANCE – We provide many families with something invaluable: sound advice. This often includes referrals to lower-cost providers and info on alternate treatment options to bring costs to affordable levels. We’ve been able to reduce the cost of medical treatment by as much as 90%+.

All applicants for aid are carefully screened by us, to ensure your donation goes to a pet owner in genuine need of assistance. Our typical approval process takes just 2-5 business days, so your donation will quickly be put to good use. Our annual requests for support total approximately $6 million, so with demand for aid far outstripping current funding, rest assured your donation is desperately needed.
