Help Us Save Orphaned Foals

$170 of $5,000 goal

Raised by 4 people in 6 months
Created April 19, 2018
It's foaling season and we need your help! Each spring Flying Change Equine Therapy rescues nurse mare foals. A nurse mare is a female horse that is impregnated so she will produce milk. After she gives birth, she is leased for money for another, more valuable horse’s foal to nurse from and her own baby – the nurse mare foal - is allowed to starve to death or is killed.

We rescue nurse mare foals and raise them as part of our therapy program, a program we call MercyFoal. Like these foals, many of our therapy clients have felt thrown away, abandoned and left to starve, emotionally or physically. The clients and their foals share a similar story. They understand each other. By pairing a client healing from trauma with a rescued foal, we give them both something to live for, someone that needs them, a reason to live and thrive.

These foals are tiny and fragile when we get them, only days or weeks old. They are just babies. So much has been taken from them already. We can’t give them back their mothers or the start to life they should have had. But we can keep them from being thrown out to starve to death. We can save them and give them lives worth living for.

MercyFoal has specialized in rescuing foals since 2001. We would like to begin this season by rescuing four nurse mare foals the last week of April. You can help us raise the money to rescue them, transport them, and give them the replacement milk, healthcare and 24 hour care they need until they are ready to be adopted into loving homes. We have set a fundraising goal of $5,000 but we will rescue as many foals as we can, so as long as we are receiving donations we will continue to rescue more babies. With your help, we can give them their best chance to recover and live a life full of love. We hope you will join us in fighting for them!

About Flying Change:

Flying Change Equine Therapy is an internationally recognized program that partners rescued and retired horses in therapy with children, teens, adults and families healing from trauma.

Our clients are recovering from the fallout of life’s tragedies like childhood neglect and abuse, domestic violence, sexual assault, natural disasters and the trauma of war and combat.

They come to us from foster care, group homes, psychiatric hospitals, family and juvenile courts, addiction rehab centers and the VA hospital. They are often referred to Flying Change because no other type of treatment has helped them. In a study of our services, 82% of teens improved more in just 5 hour long sessions of equine assisted psychotherapy than they had in 2 years of traditional talk psychotherapy.
