Help us March Again-ME Womens March

Donation protected

It’s been nearly one year since people all across the country gathered in cities, towns, and the nation’s capitol to march for women’s rights. It was the largest march in U.S. history, with an estimated 3.5-5 million men, women and children taking part in marches and rallies in all 50 states. In Maine, marches were held in several cities, with the largest drawing more than 10,000 people to the Maine Statehouse in Augusta.

On January 20, 2018, Mainers will march once again in Augusta to mark the first anniversary of the Women’s March and to continue the movement that began a year ago. The march will start at 11 am from the Statehouse and end with a rally on the Statehouse steps.  Speakers include  Sara Gideon, Shenna Bellows, Robert Shetterly, Sherri Mitchell, June Sapiel, Kirsten Alex Daly, and many others.

Organizing this event is a labor of love for all of us. And we need your help. Costs for the march and rally include permitting and city fees, traffic control, wheelchair rentals, portable bathrooms, a sound system, insurance, signage, warming areas and anything that helps make the event accessible and free to all who want to march. The costs for the sound system and staging is $1,900. The traffic control and permitting is $1,200. We would like to give travel expenses to our speakers and performers. Any extra funds donated will go to organizations supporting our vulnerable populations. We can do a poll after the march to decide on which organizations will receive these funds if there are any.

The energy from the first Women’s March translated into many victories this past year. But there is still so much to do. Please help us send the signal that we are still here and are not going anywhere by giving whatever you can to help make this march your march! $5 or $10 is all we are asking you to donate.

While March Forth Maine is sponsoring this event, I am personally paying for the expenses directly from my personal accounts and credit cards and will be reimbursed for these expenses by this campaign by withdrawing the money and placing it into my checking account. We have a planning committee with an accounting page.  The major costs are a sound and stage $1,600, insurance $1,000, Permits and police $870, Shuttle bus $600, Advertising and printing $1,200, Portable bathrooms $1,000.

Thank you!
