Help Us Bring Our History Home

Donation protected
Black Veterans have been working to preserve Black Military History and disseminate information regarding our historic contributions in the defense of the nation.

We are seeking public support to bring a collection of photographs of Black United States Soldiers home from the Imperial War Museum in London, England for public viewing America. The photographs are from the files of the United States Army, highlighting Black participation in World War II. Archived in the Museum since 1945, the photographs were given to the British Government as opposed to being brought to America for storage in our National Archives.  We would like to assemble an exhibition from the collection to raise public awareness about our military history of the time period.

The funding sought will allows us to develop an exhibition that will accompany the stage presentation being planned on the life of the legendary Buffalo Soldier, Educator and Diplomat - Colonel Charles Young. We would like to premiere both events simultaneously in 2018. The pictorial exhibition will feature post World War I through World War II Black Military History. We have asked the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, DC and the National Afro American Museum and Culture Center in Wilberforce, Ohio to collaborate with us to bring the history home to the American Public.

Our fundraising goal is three hundred and fifty thousand dollars. The collection will be developed as a touring exhibition designed to honor the history of the Black servicemen and servicewomen of the Eras. Funds raised beyond our goal will be used to support other projects relevant to Black Military History.
