Help to finance Rabbit House in Poland

When 7 years ago we moved with rabbits to a newly renovated (with our own hands and thanks to donations) rooms at the Animal Shelter in Toruń, we thought it was forever. For the last 7 years, our pupils had a shelter in the Asylum, a quarantine room and an external bunny play area, where they spent whole days in spring, summer and autumn. Unfortunately, the current uncertain situation in the Toruń hostel, the issue of the tender for its running and the decision to carry out the road to the temporary bridge on the Vistula for more than a year (maybe even until 2021) just below our windows meant that we have to consider moving. Let us add that we have used the rooms and the hospitality of the hostel, and for now we use courtesy of the current managers who lend us premises and storage space.

Rabbit House mission - let the homeless rabbits have their safe haven

Seeing the problems with pro-animal organizations renting premises (sudden notice, looking for new places with dozens of rabbits, raising rents), we decided that our rabbits would be good and stable with us, by only one option - ownership.

And it happened that ... we bought a house. Well, almost For now, we've made a down payment.

We know, we know - you say: it's crazy! Who normally buys a house for rabbits !? Well, we, members of the Rabbit Foundation. We do not think it would be crazier than renovating the room for Rescue, which looked like a bomb explosion or one day 123 rabbits from intervention (we still get great pictures from their adoptive homes). And that's what we did.

Why such a decision?

Renting a house in Toruń with a piece of land for a bunny play area is about 3 thousand. PLN per month + exploitation. Commercial premises and apartments with the number of our rabbits were not an option - we must have at least a few dozen square meters on the outer run. We can not imagine that the lives of our rabbits will deteriorate. And think - who in their right mind will rent a house in which around up to 100 rabbits will be living and the same number playing in the garden? We remind you that up to 1,200 rabbits have already been transported through our organization. In addition, we can not imagine Rescue on the outskirts of the city or in nearby towns - the duty is held every day, and our volunteers must be able to travel by public transport or by bicycle. 

Will be better

To make our rabbits safe and happy, we decided on a cheap property. When we saw the pictures, we knew - that was it! This is Rabbit House! We were sure of it on the spot.

House for which we have already paid a deposit of 20,000 PLN, located on the plots of Saint Józef - almost in the center of Toruń, about 3 minutes on foot from the Chełmno road, a few minutes from the center by bus. In the near future, there is a new tram line nearby. This is very important from the point of view of volunteers and guests visiting Rescue. In addition, to the veterinary office, in which we treat our rabbits, we will have only 2 kilometers! 

The house is 70 square meters and consists of a large kitchen, two rooms, bathroom, two hallways (two separate entrances). For this we also have a garage and a farm house - it is absolutely necessary when it comes to our needs (hundreds of kilograms of hay and a ton of pellets per month). The plot is 483 square meters, it is very nicely landscaped - we have beautiful walnut, shrubs and perennial grass. The area is quiet and peaceful - being there it is hard to believe that it is almost the center of the city.

The house does not require large expenditures when it comes to repairs. We will have to now lay new floors because of the rabbits, and in the future renovate the bathroom, but basically we can move in a week. The house is connected to the municipal water and sewage network and has a gas heating installation (gas from the municipal network). All windows are plastic, new radiators are installed. Although the house has been empty for some time, there is not a trace of moisture or fungus in it.


That the volunteers, donors and friends of the Rescue have a place for themselves

Rabbit House will not only be a place for rabbits, but also for people. Because without people there is no help. For so many years, Rescue was open to visitors and will continue to be so. In the future, we want you not only to come and spend the day with rabbits in a quiet environment, but also stay with us. Exactly! Holidays with rabbits. What do you say about that?

What are we collecting?

For the repayment of real estate - the property together with the garden plot costs 270 thousand. zlotys . Thanks to the loans granted to us for this purpose, we can buy the property faster (the date of final payment agreed with the owners of the house is 31/05/2019), but we still have to repay the loans. The owner of the real estate and the garden plot will be our Rabbit Rescue  - as OPP we can use, among others, from exemption from PCC, so the purchase for a foundation is simply much more beneficial.

And what will happen if we pay off the property and our organization will cease activity? We will forward it to another non-profit organization operating in Toruń or sell it and make a donation to another foundation. We hope, however, that as a Foundation for Rabbits, we will continue to work for many, many years and find successors who will lead this place further.
