Help the Roderick family pay medical expenses

Original Post

The Roderick family needs help with supplementing their income. Jason has been diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, and currently relies on public transportation. Due to the current pandemic, and his illness causing any infection to be severe, private ride-sharing services are his only feasible option. Everyone who knows Jason knows he would give you the shirt off his back if you asked him for it. Now, in a time of need and uncertainty, I would call on the community to give what you can. Above is the original post from his wife, Laura, and below is a condensed version of that post. Personally, my hope from this post would be enough donation to purchase a vehicle for their family to use to lessen his exposure possibility.

Over the past few months,Jason has been suffering from many different ailments but only last week were we finally able to get a diagnosis. A week ago, Jason received multiple blood tests which resulted in the finding of Multiple Myeloma. This is a specific cancer in his blood that attacks his bones and kidneys mostly. It’s a rare cancer, even more rare for a man of (almost) 50 years old.
Over this past week, Jason was admitted to the hospital for some issues with his kidneys and to get additional testing. He had a bone marrow biopsy and we should expect those results early next week. That biopsy will answer all of our questions as far as prognosis and course of action. I’m sure a lot of you, our dear friends, will have plenty of questions but please be patient as we find out all of the many details in the coming week.
Mostly we have been hearing “how can we help?” or something of the sort. I (Laura), have invoked the Family Medical Leave Act which will allow me to retain my position at work but unfortunately does not compensate. As most of you may know, daily visits to get blood work or chemo or more tests are going to cause additional financial stress.
Because we live in a city, we rely on public transit or ride-sharing. Jason is now immunocompromised and can’t take public transport. Any infections could result in his cancer being much worse so we will be avoiding the general public to keep him safe. Uber and Lyft are safer but expensive.

Please remember, we will have more to share after test results next week. In the meantime, Jason is resting and preparing. We have been surrounded by love from family near and far and we have felt every bit. We have no idea what will happen down the road so we are currently taking this sudden diagnosis one day at a time.
