Help the Risman's with their son's medical care

Matthew Risman  -  better known as Mr. Risman to his beloved 5th grade students went to Israel for Spring Break for a family event. While there his two year old son, Zev, became seriously ill, the first day there.  After seeking medical assistance at Urgent Care, he was immediately hospitalized.  He had multiple tests including a CT scan and an MRI.  Zev had major surgery for a severe infection of his mastoid (requiring a partial removal of it) near his brain, a drainage tube placed in his ear drum and behind his ear.  He also had a clot (thrombosis) that completely blocked one of his jugular veins in his brain.  Zev has been on IV medications for over 6 weeks and will remain on medications for many more months for the clot.  When Zev was finally released from the hospital, he has had to receive daily out patient nursing (all out of pocket).  

Zev was deemed medically unfit to fly without a medical escort, which LAUSD insurance does not cover (this is the only insurance the Risman’s have).  Zev has now been in Israel for 6 weeks.  Mr. Risman's wife, Julie, who has been taking care of her son has been unable to work during this time.     
 
It has been incredibly complicated and confusing to navigate the medical system of a foreign country, persuade insurance to cover Zev’s needs, and find and fund the services Zev needs. Not to mention in a country where the Risman’s are not fluent in the language.

Any funds donated would first go to help provide a medical escort to get Zev home to be treated at Children's Hospital in Los Angeles.  Zev would have a strong support network and be at home with both of his parents at his side.  Any additional funds would assist greatly with the outstanding medical debt that has accumulated as well as help with the continuous treatments that Zev needs in the next 6 months.

UPDATE from the Risman's:  We are pleased to announce that Zev is now back home in Los Angeles being followed by a team at Children's Hospital.  We are on the road to recovery and hopeful that things continue to get better.  Thank you to everyone who has helped us during these challenging times.  We are overwhelmed by the support shown to us and can't begin to express our gratitude.  Thank you.
