Christmas Homeless Event 2017

Greetings and salutations! For the past two years I have been privileged and blessed to give back to homeless individuals in my hometown of Fort Pierce, Florida during the Christmas holidays. This year will be no different! Far too often we tend to forget about the men and women that are not as fortunate as others and have to make due living on the streets. What makes this hit home with me is that some of these same individuals are prior Veterans that has served this country to defend the very freedom that we have today. Majority of you know that I have served my Country FAITHFULLY for many years……but what most people do not know is that I was once homeless while serving on active duty. I hit a very rough patch in my life and I was living out of my car and taking showers in the gym. When I would go to work, I would park my car away from my unit so no one would see all of my possessions inside of my car to avoid the questions and embarrassment. At the time I was a young Staff Sergeant in the United States Army with a lot of responsibilities and junior Soldiers that looked up to me. So, I went to work every day with a smile and conducted my day to day operations……unknown to others that I was hurting on the inside or I was in need of HELP! Once I got back on my feet, I vowed that I would make it my business to give back to those who are in need of a helping hand.
The first year I started this, it was just something small that myself and my cousin set out to do. Last year I informed a few people of my plans and they immediately came on board and was willing to help out. My Military Fraternity Brother came out along with his family to assist. Also, a very good friend of mine who lives in Maryland volunteered to take time out of her busy schedule to fly down to assist……which really warmed my heart because she definitely has a testimony and she put her life issues on the back burner to come help those who were in need. I also took my son out with me to witness that people are in need and everyone does not have it made.

So this year I want to do things a little bit different. For the past two years I have completely funded these efforts out of my own pocket and not asking anyone for a dime. We have been able to be a blessing to various individuals……but there were a lot that were left out because it was only so much that I could do. I would like to continue to provide help to those in my hometown area because that area alone has the 3rd highest homeless statistics in the state of Florida (2,382 Homeless Individuals) according to the 2016 Florida Homeless Report. The Tampa/St. Petersburg/Clearwater area has a combined 4,594 homeless individuals while Miami alone has 4,235 reported homeless individuals. With your help, I would like to do the same efforts in all three areas this year.

We have a lot going on in the world right now like Hurricanes, Politics, Protest, Racism, etc……….but I would like to challenge all of my family, friends, fellow Veterans, and complete strangers to not forget about the less fortunate and to help make this event this year a huge success. If you are free to come assist, please come out and lend a helping hand. If you want to donate items to this cause please do. If you want to bring your kids out to use this as a learning experience…..by all means. If you can’t attend and you want to donate financially to help out……then that would be a complete blessing. I do not care if it’s $1.00 or a bar of soap. Anything that you can provide would be a huge blessing and trust me it would be greatly appreciated.
