(Reuters) - Six executives from U.S. refiner Citgo Petroleum held in a Venezuelan jail without a court hearing for more than a year have asked the U.S. State Department and lawmakers to help win their release, family members and lawyers said.
FOR OVER ONE YEAR, Gustavo Cardenas has been falsely imprisoned in a Venezuela jail cell (the link is Gustavo's wife, Maria Elena, talking about her husband: https://abc13.com/citgo-exec-from-houston-still-imprisoned-in-venezuela/5117165/). This is a two part Go Fund Me; to financially help the Cardenas family as now Maria Elena is the sole provider for the family which includes a special needs child AND to get this story heard so that Gustavo (a U.S. citizen) and the other gentlemen can be brought home.
I convinced Maria Elena to let us help her during this emotionally as well as financially difficult time. Maria Elena is the sole provider to the family. Maria Elena and Gustavo have three kids; the two older children are in college three hours away and Maria Elena is not working in order to stay home to take care of Sergio. Maria Elena has no family local to her that can help. Currently, through insurance, Sergio can only have 24 hours per week of care, at $8.00 per hour. It is IMPOSSIBLE to find someone at that wage and with no income coming from Gustavo, the brunt of all the financial responsibilities has put huge pressure on Maria Elena. Not only are there large medical expenses for Sergio not covered by insurance, but there are also the everyday needs of financial support needed to run the household - car payment, groceries, utility bills, etc.. She has appealed with her insurance company because they will not cover the replacement of his motorized wheelchair which he has completely outgrown. Maria Elena needs our help in this time of need. Please note that 100% of the funds go directly to Maria Elena.
