Help The African Outlet Survive The Pandemic

Donation protected

One of my favorite shops in the world, The African Outlet is a black and women owned retail store bringing African culture, tradition and art to San Francisco since 1989.
Their current location is in the Bayview is at 4942 3rd Street, San Francisco. They really bring so much color and life to the neighborhood and provide a place for people to learn, gather and grow from asking questions about their intriguing and authentic inventory. They have also participated in many events such as Junteenth and Carnaval parades, allowing many of us to really experience being part of African Tradition (wearing masks and traditional ragalia, playing drums, dancing ..etc.) right here in San Francisco.

As with many businesses The African Outlet have struggled thru this pandemic to keep their doors open. Hit with lock-downs, social distancing and inability to host or attend community gatherings for so long (their main way of promotion) plus personal family and medical issues on top of it has caused much financial distress to the owners. They have done and are doing all they can in their capability to take care of business to keep this special place for all of us.

They really need help to get them through this what is hopefully the last legs of this pandemic, to get caught up on rent and secure some future rent. I love this store and all the wonderful community friends i’ve met through them. I can not stand by without helping. You know what to do, donate and/or share. Let’s keep their doors open!

Due to the pandemic making such gatherings unsafe, they are very sad to not be able to host a fundraising party and hope to get through so they can host a celebration in the future when things are much safer for everyone to gather again without any stress. They would really love to continue their “An Afternoon at The African Outlet” events which were featuring artists, musicians and groups as well as local Bayview breweries, wineries and food.
Their vision for the future is to establish an African Art and Cultural Museum in the Bayview.

To learn more about The African Outlet check out their facebook page www.facebook.com/TheAfricanOutlet and their homepage: www.TheAfricanOutletSF.com
Of course this store is unable to be really experienced well online so I do encourage to visit in person if possible and see for yourself.
