Help Team Japan to Smash n Splash 4

Who they are: PEGA, KHU, and Shateau are all Japanese ARMS players, consistently ranked among the best in Japan, if not the world. They’ve spent their fair share of time competing, training, and helping grow the competitive ARMS community in Japan. Here’s a quick list of information on them:

PEGA:

·         Known as “The Emperor” by his fellow Japanese competitors
·         Max Brass main
·         1st  at EVO Japan 2018
·         1st in the Japanese Grand Prix
·         3 time winner of the ARMS Tenka tournament

KHU:

·         Known as “Kasumikage” or “Leader of the Ninjaras”
·         Ninjara main
·         Ranked 5th at EVO Japan 2018
·         Consistently made top 8 at all Japanese ARMS tournaments
·         English translator for the Japanese community
·         Personally assists in helping connect Japanese and foreign players to strengthen international bonds

Shateau:

·         Known as “The General”
·         Dr. Coyle main
·         1st place at Tokaigi
·         Consistently made top 8 at all Japanese ARMS tournaments.

Together, these three players have been working and practicing hard to push ARMS into the competitive fighting game scene in Japan. Now, after seeing how players from all over the world supported them at EVO JAPAN 2018 and Tokaigi, they’re looking to support the Western ARMS scene the same way by attending Smash ‘N’ Splash 4, a Nintendo-themed eSports tournament featuring ARMS for the first time ever!

(If the HYPE trailer made by KHU wasn't enough of a showcase of these players' skills, check out the "First to 10" match between PEGA and Shateau below):

What the funds are for: These three players are working hard to raise their own money through their jobs or live streaming on Twitch, but still need help from the community to realize their dreams of competing on a foreign stage. Traveling to and from Japan is not cheap, as many players who traveled to EVO Japan 2018 found out. Additionally, the hotel fees for Kalahari Resorts, the hotel where Smash N Splash 4 is being hosted, factor into these costs. Below is a complete breakdown of estimated costs:

Approximate cost per person:

Flight: $1200

5/31(Thu) HND->MSN direct flight <-> 6/4(Mon) MSN->HND direct flight

Venue fee: $60

Bracket: Custom $10, Defaults $10

Hotel: $200 (1 room for 1 night: $150 * 4 days = $600, split between 3 people makes each individual cost $200)

Food: $150

Sum per 1 person: $1630

So, for 3 people: $4900

If we take this cost and split it in half, it comes out $2450. Taking into consideration the processing fee charged by Paypal, $2550 is the final sum being asked of NA and EU players!

All in all, it’s a hefty fee, for sure. However, we’re confident that with hard work from these players and their foreign supporters, we can meet our goal and get them to Splash ‘N’ Splash 4!

Why use American crowdfunding?: KHU is helping to arrange Japanese crowdfunding on his side of things, while I’m working to establish an American crowdfunding campaign for them. The reason for this is the language barrier and specific Japanese regulations on online money transfers.

First, the issue of the language barrier would make it difficult for English speaking players to properly navigate a Japanese website, as well as donate to the campaign. By creating a secondary campaign for English speakers, it will simplify how easy it is for people all over the world to donate!

Second, Japanese money transferring services, such as paypal and others, have specific restrictions. For instance, you cannot receive money or transfer it to other individuals in most standard Japanese paypal accounts. These regulations became difficult to juggle as KHU and I deliberated on what was the best method to approach this problem with. As we found that there wasn’t a single, universal crowdfunding website, we agreed that having two separate campaigns for both regions would function best. I will personally make sure KHU receives these funds so that he can coordinate travel and rooming with PEGA and Shateau!

How you can help: Beyond just donating, you can help by spreading the campaign link on Twitter, Facebook, and other social media websites. Additionally, even sharing the campaign link for others to see will assist us in reaching our goal! Thank you very much for your support and please check back for updates on how to support each player!
