Help Susan's battle with cancer

Susan Hamre is an amazing and loving wife, mother, and grandma (with another grandchild on its’ way in October). Susan was recently diagnosed with Cholangiocarcinoma, Cancer of the Bile Duct. In April of this year she started to become very ill and knew something wasn’t right. After multiple doctors’ visits and tests there were little answers to what was causing her symptoms. Her condition progressively worsened and by mid-June she was hospitalized. It was at this time that they discovered she had a large tumor growing on her liver. After a biopsy of the tumor, it was determined that the cancer was a fast-growing form originating from the bile duct. This was devastating news for Susan and her family, but she was prepared to fight. A low dose Chemotherapy option was given and started in early August. Unfortunately, she was unable to tolerate the first treatment and was hospitalized the next day. It was clear that Chemotherapy could, at this point, do more harm than good. She then made the brave decision to not carry on with Chemo.

With no other options in reach at this time, we (her family) have been working tirelessly to find alternative treatment options. We are currently working with a private company, Cancer Treatment Options & Management (CTOAM), and have had a genomic test done called the Foundation One. This is an FDA approved test that helps to identify possible treatments, such as various targeted and immunotherapies, by looking at a person’s genomic profile and mutations. With the results and analysis from this testing, CTOAM has come up with a promising targeted treatment that would interfere with the growth of the cancer cells and slow its’ spread.  We are excited and hopeful as Susan begins treatment this week.  The monthly cost for this treatment is $6900.00 a month, as a result we have created a go fund me to help with this cost and the costs accrued for the private testing. 

One of Susan’s most incredible qualities is always caring and being there for whoever needs a helping hand. She is never one to ask for help and has been fighting this battle privately with her supportive family by her. With her permission, we are now sharing her story so we can continue to fight this battle with her.
