Help Support Johnson Family Farm

Donation protected

Dear Friends,

Many of you may or may not know how the eruption of the Kilauea Volcano has had a devastating impact on parts of the Big Island. In particular my mother and father in-law, Garuda and Mukunda (Johnson Family Farm), who have been farming their land for almost 40 years, have had to evacuate their 20 acre organic produce farm due to the toxic air quality.

The 18 fissures that have erupted are only 15 mins away from the farm and the winds have been blowing the sulphur dioxide gasses in their direction which has destroyed the
majority of their crops.

Just weeks ago, the farm was thriving with lush, organic
vegetables th
at were sold at the local farmer's market, health food stores and restaurants in their island community. Due to the loss of all the crops their livelihood has sadly come to an end.

For the last 25 years, Garuda and Mukunda have opened their farm and hearts and have even been "hanai" parents to so many. For those of you who had the opportunity to live or visit their home/farm, I'm sure you all experienced how generous and kind they are - from providing hundreds of people shelter when they needed a place to stay, giving thousands of people food who were hungry through their Rockin Rama Pizza Parties and weekly gatherings, to offering their time, energy and love to so many who needed them—their
association has played such an important role in so many lives.

As farming goes, especially one that is completely off the grid, the expenses are always ongoing. They recently had been working on updating their greenhouses, maintaining structures, tools and equipment as well as replacing and updating their solar system.  The bills are still coming in, but now they have no way to pay. No source of income. The funds raised here will go to help cover moving/relocating and storage of farm equipment, repayment of seeds, soil, and organic fertilizer, recouping the loss of income from their organic produce, avocado's, and 8+ working bee hives, finding a new home for themselves and for the 3 other families that lived and worked on the farm, and finding a place for their numerous animals. The farm supported a total of 20 individuals and now their livelihood and the livelihood of those they supported is now gone.

It is with a humble heart that I ask you to please help my in-laws in this time of need.

Thank you for all your love and support.

Aloha,
Saradha Johnson
