Recovery Support for Toby and Stephi
Folks I just don't have the word to tell you all how much I appreciate the outpouring of support, prayers, love, good vibes, positive thoughts, etc that we have received in the last few days. Things have moved way quicker than I ever imagined. I'm going to use this post to share what I feel is appropriate and at a time when I feel its appropriate. But first I'll give you a little history. Pull up a chair, it might be a long read full of fat thumb typing mistakes and Kentucky grammar.
For a few months Steph has been having some shortness of breath. Back in April urgent care diagnosed bronchitis. A few medications later and she was feeling better, not perfect but better. Fast forward to last week. A yearly exam on Thursday led to an xray that showed a mass. That led to a CT scan on Friday that proved the mass size and location. It was roughly the size of a melon and was pushing on her right lung and heart causing the shortness of breath and likely an increase in her BP. An outpatient lung biopsy was done Monday which was a very uncomfortable procedure.
From there things progressed rapidly. A fever led to a trip to the UK ER late Thursday night and we have been here since. Yesterday she had a thoracotomy to remove the mass in her chest, estimated at nearly 10 lbs. She is currently recovering from that surgery. She currently has a chest tube, is on the ventilator and heavily medicated. They will be weaning her off of the sedation and ventilator today. They want her up and walking some this evening....craziness if you ask me but it's in her best interest. So this is where we stand. We have a long road ahead of us and as of now, don't know what that road looks like.
Stephi will be headed to Indiana University next week for medical care. Donations raised through Go Fund Me will assist us with the travel costs and medical needs not covered by our insurance and household expenses while I stay with Stephi to ensure she gets the best possible care.
