Hey friends! I'm starting up this GoFundMe to help out our friend Stephen Chapman.
For nearly the past decade, Stephen has been struggling with a debilitating condition and has become disabled. After visiting multiple general practitioners, neurologists, rheumatologists, and others, doctors have been so mystified by his wide array of symptoms and pain that they've struggled to even give him a formal diagnosis. After having the opportunity to visit the specialists at the world-renown Mayo Clinic, they diagnosed him with Chronic Pain Syndrome (CPS) -- described as a "constellation of syndromes that usually do not respond to the medical model of care."
I've known Stephen since we were ten years old, and to say that this condition has deeply affected him would be a wild understatement. Steve was studying to finish his undergrad, was an athletic cyclist, enjoyed going to social functions with friends, and more. Now, he is always reluctant to fully commit to going to an event because he's not sure how manageable his pain will be from day to day. It forces him to be confined and isolated from friends, further exacerbating his deeply frustrating condition.
But there is hope! The Mayo Clinic specialists have suggested that his quality of life would dramatically improve if he were able to visit a comprehensive pain rehabilitation clinic. It involves a 3-4 week multidisciplinary treatment plan, that would significantly help manage the pain that has so deeply thrown off the trajectory of Steve's life. That opportunity has come, and Stephen has a window to be able to visit the Cleveland Clinic Chronic Pain Rehabilitation Program. This will enable Steve to take back the initiative in his life, allow him to finish school, pursue his goals, and more.
