Dear Friends,

Please chip in to help out the poet, Sotère Torregian tackle a host of medical expenses. Sotère is bedridden, having trouble getting around and taking care of necessities. He needs your help to procure food and to pay for mounting medical bills. Additionally he is wondering if there are writers in the Bay Area who can assist him to type his manuscripts onto a computer. A primary goal is to raise $10,000 within the next month.

Please help in anyway you can. And forward this message to as many writers as you can.  Thank you.

. . . . . . .

Sotère Torregian made his debut in the Young American Poets (1969), edited by Paul Carroll. He has devoted almost 60 years of his life to Poetry, still proclaiming himself a French Surrealist in outlook and a Revolutionary in politics (the two often coincide with his poetic output). His hand-scripted letters sent all over the world, to friends and others, have been extensive, openly sharing his postal address for those interested in writing to him. NOT OWNING A COMPUTER, CHOOSING TO RETURN TO BASICS; — pens, pencils, paper, his 1945 Smith Corona Portable Typewriter, — as well as Elmer's Glue and scissors — to make his poems, Sotère Torregian's works to date include numerous books of poetry and other writings, the latest being

ON THE PLANET WITHOUT VISA, Coffee House Press, 2012;
THE AGE OF GOLD (REDUX), Rêve à Deux , 2015;
SURREAL ADVENTURER, Rêve à Deux , 2015.

The poet lives and works in the City of Stockton, California.

Message from Sotère—
Living now off of savings + S.S.I. Disability. (Since 1989)
Hands-fingers failing. Painful to write. Therapy for not covered by Medicaid. I refuse arthritis drugs. Get on by imbibing brandy to quell pain and difficulty moving about. Getting very serious. I fear I will no longer be able to hold a pen or type properly at the typewriter. Ask for help and Thanks for your kindness and generosity. Recently diagnosed as well with congestive heart-failure (February 2019). I have 20 more books in Manuscript waiting and feel overwhelmed. God bless you who can help.
Yours Sincerely— ♥ Sotère Torregian

To Those Who Have Helped Me
In My Hour Of Need

I had a very vivid Dream and felt
an Angelic Presence tell me to write it

I found myself in an apartment in London
with two friends, a man and a woman.
They were asking me
about my writing and also what they could do
to help others in the world.
I told them, ‘Gather a circle of friends together,
Meditate and read some poems.’
They asked about Meditation.

“It’s your consciousness unified–as One–
with the Divine Consciousness of the Universe.”
As you Meditate – your consciousness radiates
out into the world thereby uplifting it and all those
in it.

As you know, in my own moment of crisis
a Dear Friend put out an S.O.S, so to speak,
that I was in a health and financial debacle
and there were many who came to my aid.
I never thought this would happen but it did.
It was to me a Miracle.

I am still in ill health but am able to pay
the Rent and Utility bills that were overdue.
Thank God for those benefactors, known and
unknown, who responded to my
friend, Collin’s call for funds to help me.

I remain living on a sole income of
Social-Security and Disability S.S.I. –
but have enough money to pay for
the mounting bills.

Our conversation went long into the night.
But the gist of what I told the two friends,
Do unto others, what others did for me.
Find out who is in need – perhaps desperate
as I was some months ago, and Pay it Forward;
maybe do the same as my friend did on his
computer – you will recall I am not on line
nor have a computer, which isolates me somewhat—
—but send out an S.O.S. for help for an individual
or individuals who are struggling.

When I was a young boy I would pray to God
to give me magical powers that I could touch
people and they’d be miraculously
healed of any illness or disease. I also prayed
that I would inherit a fortune so that I could
give money away like that ancient French
Saint, King, Louis IX, in the middle ages, who went
about giving money to the poor and healing
the sick.

My grandmother died of cancer when I was
12 years old. I was traumatized. I recalled
it was her hope I would be a great doctor to help
her when she was sick. I failed to become a doctor
--being a failure in math and science at school. To my
family’s disappointment I became a poet at age 17 –
Yet now I still yearn to help others, to see them
prosper and be healed of ills.

I have always been an advocate of Peace with
Justice and have opposed this Capitalist System based
on greed (“Profits Before People”) which is entirely
inimical to the Teachings of Christ and the Saints of
the Church. Americans are living a hypocrisy in their
society based on Self and Narcissism.

So that is part of my story, friends, pray,
meditate and do what you can to help others, let your
consciousness radiate out into the world.

Even as the News has become nothing but
a depiction of horrors, accidents, killings, murders,
one after the other, there is a Divine love immanent
that sustains and maintains this universe—
even if appearances would not have it so.
As Walt Whitman wrote in his great poem, “Miracles”
in his Leaves Of Grass
“Every moment of the day and night is a miracle

I have myself experienced a Miracle by you
being benefactors on my account when I was
down to $57.00 and $150.00 worth of bills
due to be paid in a matter of days! Never
had I hit rock-bottom so hard-on this fixed income.

I hope, friends, you might create some
Miracles for others as well. May we all live
in Peace and prosper, and Immigrants find
a safe and welcome home amongst us.

I was feeling near death.
