Hello friends and family! I recently graduated Summa Cum Laude from Carthage College and I'm off on my next adventure in Orlando, FL. I am currently training and will soon be working full(ish)time at Disney World! That being said, I also have to complete paperwork and medical procedures for what's to come after that: FULBRIGHT!!
If you are not friends with my mom on Facebook, you may have missed the big news that I have been selected as a Fulbright Grantee by the U.S. Department of State and corresponding governments to teach English and act a cultural ambassador in Malaysia starting in January! This is a huge honor and a life-changing experience, so I really want to go.
There's just one problem, I have to receive medical clearance before I'm allowed to start the program, and that means I need a series of multiple travel vaccinations. From the quotes I've asked for it's clear that this is going to be VERY expensive and my insurance won't cover any of it!
That's where you come in. I need your help if I'm going to afford the six types of vaccinations I have to get. While I do have a job, rent is deducted weekly from my check and I have other bills to pay, so most of my remaining money is going to food and gas.
Just so you know my cause is legitimate, I'll list the shots I need and the quotes I've received. According to the Center for Disease Control website, for Malaysia, I need a shot (or series of shots) for Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Typhoid, Japanese Encephalitis, Rabies, and Tetanus. And maybe some preventative Malaria medication (because it is HOT and HUMID in Malaysia aka there are mosquitos everywhere).
I have an appointment scheduled with a local travel clinic in Orlando for a consultation.
Here is their pricing:
"Consult: $65.00
Hep A: $110.00
Hep B: $110.00
Tetanus (TDAP): $75.00
Twinrix (Hep A/B combo): $150.00
Typhoid: $125.00
1st injection fee: $30.00"
That means this appointment is going to cost me around $445 if I get the combo Hep shot, Typhoid, and TDAP (including the injection and consultation fees). As of right now, I am uncertain which of these shots I need multiple of. And, as for the Japanese Encephalitis one, UW Madison gave me a quote of over $300.
If you can donate to my cause I will be eternally thankful, and if not, I would appreciate it if you could share it with your friends! Any donation is a good donation. Even $1.30 would be wonderful (since gofundme takes $0.30 of every donation). Please help me stay healthy so I can live, teach, and learn as I leave North America for the first time!
