HELP SHEP RECOVER!

We have decided to set up an URGENT Gofundme account to help Shep who was viciously attacked at Los Barrios council pound on the 20th December 2018. This was the third time he had been attacked and was the most ferocious. Due to the constant flow of daily arrivals the pound is severely overcrowded and there is very little room to move the dogs about. This can result in fights and attacks amongst the dogs, where the weaker more vulnerable ones get picked on. The volunteers and workers at this pound do their very best to love and care for these unwanted dogs, but the situation of abandoned dogs in Southern Spain is increasing at an alarming rate and will sadly not abate.

Shep has been bitten nearly all over his body, and he has some large gaping holes and a damaged leg that will need many months of treatment and regular visits to the vet. You can see photos of these horrific wounds below in the comments. We feel they are too graphic and upsetting to show directly on Facebook. We have placed him into a loving foster home so he can now recover in a clean safe environment. We will ensure he never returns to the pound again.

Shep is also  traumatised from his recent  attack and is in a lot of pain but regular painkillers are helping. The vet even has to sedate him to dress his wounds because it is too distressing for him. Shep’s wounds are also infected and he is on a strong course of antibiotics. He may need a skin graft at a later date, if this doesn’t improve. His treatment is going to be ongoing for several months and we need to raise funds to cover this as the vet bills are starting to mount up. There is a photo of a recent Vet bill below for 130€ from just one vet visit where he was sedated, had blood tests and his wounds were dressed.

We are all devastated for this beautiful gentle boy who also has such an amazing will to survive and wants to keep fighting. Two vets feel he can pull through so we want to give him this chance. Shep is a young sweet natured dog aged approx 3 years and has been living at the pound since August 2017. He so rightly deserves to recover and have a happy life! Please donate whatever you can, even if it is only a small amount as every penny helps, and this will help us fund Shep’s treatment and help him to make a full recovery.
