Help Send Tessa to the Miss You Can Do It Pageant!

Dear Friends and Family,
I recently took Tessa to the 2019 Sangamon County Fair Queen Pageant. The happiness and excitement on her face seeing those "princesses" as she called them would be enough to light up an entire room. She marveled at their dresses! She laughed, clapped and danced for every single one of those young ladies! This reminded me of a pageant I had heard of several years ago called the Miss You Can Do It Pageant. Shortly after tucking Tessa into bed that night I went to google and found out the next Miss You Can Do It Pageant happens to be next month! July 30th in Dubuque, Iowa.
The morning after the SCF Queen Pageant Tessa had a Tonic Clonic seizure. The excitement from the night before combined with a later than usual bed time became a recipe for disaster. This seizure only fueled me to make the pageant next month possible for my princess. We know that tomorrow isn't promised for anyone but for people living with epilepsy the risk of SUDEP (Sudden Unexplained Death in Epilepsy) is a reality we face.
For those of you reading this who may not know Tessa, she was born with a rare brain abnormality called Subcortical Band Heterotopia, also known as Double Cortex Syndrome. SBH is a neuronal migration disorder, which means the neurons in her brain did not migrate out to where they are supposed to be resulting in extra grey matter in her brain which looks like a "double cortex" on an MRI. Because of this abnormality Tessa is moderately mentally retarded and has epilepsy. She only very recently began having convulsive seizures.
