The sport of ultimate was invented by Columbia High School students in 1968 in the Columbia student parking lot in Maplewood, New Jersey. Celebrating our fiftieth year, Columbia is the longest running team in the sport. Ultimate is now played in over 80 countries, was recognized by the International Olympic Committee in 2015,  and is one of the fastest growing sports in the world. Columbia continues to be a powerhouse with 14 New Jersey state championships, a 2008 Easterns championship, and many other awards and championships. We have a very high level of participation at Columbia, with over 60 students trying out this fall, and each player offered a spot on either the Varsity, JV-A or JV-B team. This year has been an especially strong year having come in first place at the Coconut Classic, Midnight Madness, and Radnor Invite tournaments. Because of our strong performance, we have been ranked in the top 20 teams in the nation and are one of just six teams invited to the prestigious Paideia Cup tournament in Atlanta, Georgia and one of 16 teams invited to the High School National Invite in Rockford, Illinois!

Ultimate is a self-funded sport at Columbia that does not receive any financial support from the school district. Team expenses, including coaching stipends, uniforms, tournament entry fees, and travel expenses, are paid for with a combination of player dues and fundraising. Because there are so few local ultimate teams in our area, the team must travel to compete in tournaments. Though we do our best to economize - by enlisting parents to drive to out-of-town tournaments and having players stay with host families whenever possible - the expenses add up. Competing in the National Invite will require purchasing airline tickets for 23 players, a coach, and four chaperones to fly to Illinois, plus hotels, van rentals, meals, and the tournament bid fee. Each player is making a significant personal contribution towards these expenses, with team dues set at $1,000 for the spring season. We still need to raise additional funds to fully cover the cost of competing at the national level. We would be grateful for any donation, no matter the size. Please share this page, and follow us on Instagram and Twitter @CHSVFT for updates throughout the season, including at the National Invite on June Ninth and Tenth. Thank You!
The beneficiary for this campaign will be Jeremy Singer, our team treasurer, who will deposit all donations to our team bank account to be used for nationals.

Thanks to everyone who has donated so far! We are so close to our goal and we're very excited! This past weekend we competed at the Paideia Cup in Atlanta, Georgia. It was an amazing tournament with all top 25 teams in the nation. CHSVFT faced some adversity but rallied on sunday with a 2-3 record for the weekend with wins over Neuqua Valley (Illinois), ranked seventh in the nation, and Center Grove (Indiana), who was ranked sixth in the nation and went on to win the tournament. Our next tournament is the New Jersey State Championships which will be held Memorial Day weekend in Trenton with the finals the Thursday after at Drew University. Please continue to share this page so that we can reach our goal, Thank You!

This past Saturday, we took home a 15-13 victory against Westfield in an absolutely thrilling game. Our JVA, JVB, and middle school teams also took home victories over their respective Westfield counterparts. This Friday, May fourth, we will be playing a mixed gender scrimmage against Watchung Hills alongside the CHS girls team Sparklemotion. The game will be at Memorial Park in Maplewood from 4-6PM. As always, live tweets should be coming from our twitter @CHSVFT. After that, we move into the last stretch of the season with Paideia Cup, States, and Nationals. Thanks to everyone who has donated so far and please continue to share this page and support us, Thank You!!!

We came in third place at Born to Dive with a 13-6 win over Science Leadership Academy in the third place game, a 10-6 win over Washington and Lee in the quarters, and a 10-11 loss to Westfield in the semis, who went on to win 13-4 in the final against Pennsbury. We will be playing Westfield again this Saturday, April 28th, at 4:30 PM at Edison Intermediate School in Westfield (800 Rahway Ave)! If you're around, come by and support! Westfield is about 20 minutes away from Maplewood and it's going to be a great game! Our JVA and JVB teams will also be playing at the same time, and our middle school teams will be playing earlier at 2:45 PM! Thanks Everyone!!
