Help Save "Otto" the Cat

Donation protected
During Otto's vet visit the doctor immediately said he didn’t like the way Otto’s stomach looked and wanted to run some extra tests. Shannon agreed to the tests hoping they would be able to provide medicine to make him feel better and get back to his normal self. The office started off by doing an Ultrasound on Otto’s abdomen to see why it was so large and discovered that it was full of fluid. They decided to do an X-ray and blood work to determine what was wrong and what was causing the fluid buildup. They also removed some of the fluid to not only remove some pressure but also to send out for testing.

The fluid was yellow in color, which is a bad sign as it usually means the animal has FIP (AKA Coronavirus). Otto was prescribed Furosemide which would help draw the fluid from his body via his kidneys. The doctor wants to see Otto back on Monday January 16, 2017 to reassess him as well as go over the results from his tests. The next steps to help Otto are Fluid treatments, Antibiotics, and Steroids to help give him a fighting chance to recover.

This one visit to the vet has added up to about $625 dollars. We would appreciate anyone who is willing to help in paying for his treatment. All donations made will go toward Otto’s current and future treatment and vet visits. Anything left over will go directly to the Ventura County Animal Shelter where Otto was prior to being fostered then adopted.

We don’t want to give up on him when he only just found happiness in a permanent home. Please help us help him. Whether its $1 or $5, any amount helps and will be appreciated. And if you cannot give any money sharing is a great way to help as well. We want to thank anyone and everyone in advance.

Thank you for taking the time to read Otto’s story and helping us save his life.

On December 11, 2016, my sister adopted Otto from the Ventura County Animal Shelter.

We don’t know much about Otto’s past because he was found as a stray cat in September of 2016. He was skinny and on the verge of death because of bladder stones that were forming in his abnormally small bladder. A month after arriving in the shelter he had to undergo surgery to remove the bladder stones and when Shannon began fostering him he was still recovering. Otto must be on a special food diet that can become a little pricey which is what has deterred anyone from adopting him.

Otto is an extremely friendly and patient cat despite what he has been through. He loves to get pets from Shannon’s son, Hayden, and loves to lie with them both. Hayden loves animals just about as much as his mom does. He is on the Autism Spectrum and he has moments where he can’t control his emotions and has trouble calming himself down. Since fostering Otto Shannon has watched her son bond with him. Otto truly helps her son calm down and find relaxation; Hayden says that Otto is his ‘Best Friend’.

On Sunday January 6, 2017, Otto was acting different than he normally did. He wasn’t running to get treats anymore. He wasn’t running to the door when someone came home. He wasn’t playing with toys the way he did in the days before. He stopped using his litter box and started having accidents. Since Otto was still a foster, Shannon called the Vet office associated with the Shelter and made an appointment for them to see him. She just knew something was wrong.

On January 12, 2017, the vet saw him but they said he seemed fine to them and sent him home. Heartbroken that she didn’t get any answers Shannon decided to adopt Otto and make her home officially his. She wanted to be able to love him completely and give him the love he has always deserved.
