Suzan Davies, was first diagnosed with cancer when she was 16 years old. Given a bleak prognosis she defied all medical odds and over 25 years later she is still here fighting. A teacher and mother of two young children, Suzan has faced the recurrence of her cancer throughout her life and is now battling it for the eighth time. Suzan is an inspiration to her friends and the students whose lives that she touches and many of us feel privileged to support her as she continues to remain positive in the face of ongoing and painful treatments for her illness. Her current cancer is located in her liver but comes as a result of an earlier experience of breast cancer. At this stage of her treatment, her oncologist has suggested that current chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments are no longer effective but that a new and highly successful drug called Palbociclib has been shown in trials to help more than two thirds of metastatic breast cancer patients like her. A recent ABC article has also highlighted this drug’s potential to prolong and improve the lives of women who bravely fight this disease.
