Help save Kitsie!

This story starts with my mom.  For those of you that know Connie; know that she has always done everything she could to help someone in need: human, dog, opossum, squirrel, there are no boundaries.  Connie started rescuing animals at a very young age.  I remember plenty of stories of dogs and other creatures that she would convince her parents to help her save, but the story that really sticks out for me is the day she came home with a spider in a jar that was going to be killed. Her parents quickly realized it was a black widow and I am not sure of the spiders fate from there.  But that is still my mom in a nut shell.  She wishes death upon nothing and will go out of her way to help.  In her eyes, it's not their fault they were born a spider, a rat, an unfortunate looking dog.  They deserve a life worth living.

Now lets go back about 8 years.  My mom had to go into the local animal shelter for one reason or another.  While there, she saw two terrified dogs that were about to be put to sleep.  The other dogs from their litter had already been let go.  Without hesitation, my mom told the staff she would take the remaining pups. Someone responded with something along the lines of, "Why would you save these guys?  It's not like they are good, or even cute dogs."  Comments like that definitely won't stop this Dog Lady.  She took the two young dogs home.  She named one Chaser and the other, our sweet little Kitsie.  Due to the extent of their abuse, rehabilitation is on going.  They still take time warming up to people, but once they do, they are complete love bugs.

Kitsie, a black and white under-bite beauty, is a champion and a truly strong dog.  She has always been an old soul, you can see it in her eyes.

When Connie's mother was in her last months, she lost her beloved golden retriever, Sunny.  We sent Kitsie to live with her so she was not spending her last days without the love and companionship of a dog.  Kitsie was amazing at taking care of my grandmother.  She never left her side and always made sure the care takers knew when she needed something.  When my grandmother was leaving this world, Kitsie ran and got everyone so we were able to spend those last minutes with the amazing woman that made my mom the loving soul she is today.

Two weeks ago, my mom was feeding her dogs along with some fosters.  While bending over to set a bowl down, she fainted.  When she finally came to, Kitsie was being trampled by some of the other dogs.  Once she was able to get up, she stopped the fight and called for help.  They rushed Kitsie to the vet.  Her wounds were very extensive.  She broke a few ribs in multiple places, which caused one of her lungs to get punctured.  She stayed at my mom's local vet and underwent 1 surgery.  Unfortunately, things started to take a turn for the worse, and she had to be taken to a specialty vet an hour away.  What started off as one surgery has turned into five.  There have been many ups and downs and far too many close calls, but Kitsie won't give up, she just wants to go home. The bills are racking up and they are more than my mom can handle, as she already has multiple other vet bills for various foster dogs.

Kitsie and my mom have both given so much to everyone who has been lucky enough to know and love them, and now they need help.  Anything you can offer would be appreciated so much more than you will ever know.   The funds raised will go to Kitsie's growing vet bill along with  the vet bills that she continues to pay off for various rescues in 2018.

Here is a list of a small fraction of this years rescues:

Snowball - lived in a pen for 12 years until owner died - no where to go
Benny - owner died unexpectedly
Bash - given up at 12 years old
Stripe & Mandy - abandoned with embedded collars
Otis - abandoned with 2 broken legs
Lindy - abandoned and starving on highway with huge tumors
Grace - abandoned living in the woods

Please donate, share, whatever you see fit!

THANK YOU!

This poor pup just hasn’t been able to catch a break! After Kitsie’s successful last surgery on her chest, she was not able to keep food down. She had a stricture that was preventing her from doing so. They attempted to repair it with time and medicine but unfortunately, after losing 14lbs, they decided they needed to go in. She’s had 2 surgeries on it now. She is still not able to eat food on her own, so she is being fed directly into her stomach. She is having pretty severe shivers because they think her throat is very painful for her. However that does not prevent her from being happy when she sees all of her favorite(and amazing on so many levels!!) vets and my sweet mama when she goes to see her twice a day (4 hours in the car each day so little KitKat doesn’t feel alone!). I am amazed at everyone’s love and dedication to this wonderful and deserving little pup. I am so thankful that there are people like the ones that surround Kitsie each day. Thank you all for your continued support!!

Kitsie has had some really good days lately! They have been able to remove her from oxygen, her feeding tube, and her IV fluids! Tomorrow she will have her 5th, and hopefully LAST surgery on her chest! They are going to try to close her chest wound where the skin had necrosis. When she arrived at the specialty vet, they removed all the dead skin and started trying to grow and stretch the remaining skin so it could be closed. In this process they used Velcro to help stretch it out.

This has been a very long and hard process for my mom and Kitsie as it happened almost 3 weeks ago. My parents have already spent over $25,000 so please know that every donation or share helps and is appreciated!

Just in the last year, not including donations from other amazing individuals, my mom has spent over $15,000 of her own money on strays and other dogs in need of help. And if you know Connie, you know that will never change. And not only because that is who she is as a person, but also because her generosity and her amazing heart are needed. The number of strays and the amount of animal neglect and abuse is overwhelming and truly devasting. Rocky Mount needs my mom. And unfortunately, that need is not going away anytime soon.

So once again, THANK YOU!
