Help Sasoon Rebuild His Art Studio

What Happened
On December 28th, 2016, a few days shy of the New Year, a fire destroyed LA based artist Sasoon Markarian’s studio. Sas is known for creating custom apparel, reimagining vintage garments and creating texturally abstract paintings. He has collaborated and produced work for Dosa, Kelly Wearstler, Santa Monica Museum of Art, and many other artists.
80% of Sas’s inventory and paintings burned or suffered severe smoke damage, then water damage from firefighters on the scene attempting to control the fire. He was in the process of creating a new collection and reworking over 500 pieces for a featured pop-up shop in London this February 2017. These garments and artworks ranging from the last few months to 10 years have been compromised or completely lost in the fire .
This GoFundMe fundraiser is meant to aid Sas reclaim his practice by helping him relocate to a new studio, purchasing all new equipment, and rebuilding his inventory.
About Sas
Ten years ago, Sas moved into his studio embarking on a journey as an artist and designer. He experimented with screen printing, custom washes and dyes on canvas, and designed cut and sew garments.
He has spent the last decade establishing a solid reputation in the creative industries of fashion and art. His vision is interpreted through paintings, the re-workings of vintage clothing, screen printing and design.
Sas spent years collecting vintage canvases and textiles to create multi-dimensional paintings, which were displayed at Jai and Jai Gallery in April 2016 as well as Hibbleton Gallery November 2016.

The fire ignited at Sas' neighbor's, one in which Sas shared a wall with. Once started, the fire grew rapidly and instantaneously spread to his studio. The damage incurred to both his collected materials as well as equipment is upwards of $100,000. Below, some images of the aftermath:






What can we do?
Unfortunately, Sas cancelled his insurance policy a few weeks prior to the fire (in search of a more cost-effective option). So all of the damage that took place will not be replaced. It took years for him to build this foundation. He is someone that helped and hired young artists to learn the craft of screen printing. He’s also helped fellow artists create merchandise to help fund their respective crafts. He has given art to the community, and now he needs our support.
Imagine if everything you owned and cherished was destroyed in a fire. Imagine then, these things that you love so much, also being your livelihood. This fire is devastating for Sas, not only as an artist, but also as a business owner.
