Sarah Curtis’ fight against Cancer

Sarah’s message:

I’ve always been the one to take part in a run, roll about in mud or jump out of a plane to raise money for a great cause. So, this right here doesn’t sit comfortably with me. But the truth is, I need your help.

On the 30th May 2019 I was diagnosed with colon cancer. I’m 32! From that moment I lost control of my life and my future. I have been lucky; things have moved really quickly for me. Surgery has taken place, removing part of my colon, 27 lymph nodes and my appendix (which was unexpected). Since receiving my results post-surgery, my diagnosis has gone from bad to worse.

In a nutshell I have been told that I have an aggressive form of cancer which had spread to 20 of the lymph nodes removed (that’s a lot, apparently). They also told me that due to my young age, the chances of my cancer returning is extremely high. So, I need chemotherapy and I’ll be going straight in with twelve rounds rather than the usual 6.

As if that wasn’t enough, during surgery, they found that I have endometriosis. So, if the chemo doesn’t kill off my chances of having children, this almost certainly will.

Some of you will know this but many of you will not, three and a half years ago I lost my little girl, Willow, almost halfway through my pregnancy. I was so grateful to have had the chance to carry and hold my little girl but the opportunity to love her and care for her on this earth was robbed from me (and her daddy).

This is where I need your help. I cannot imagine a future without children… I don’t want to. So, I have chosen to delay the start of my chemotherapy (at the upset of my oncologist) so that I can try to protect my future by freezing my eggs. But of course there is another bump in the road, this type of procedure does not come cheap and in this instance, time is hugely against me (my chemo needs to start sooner rather than later)!

On average, the process of freezing eggs costs about £5000-6000. This includes consultation costs, procedural costs, blood tests and required medication.

Put simply – I need your help. Please.

I can fight this cancer with the strength of my army but none of it seems worth it if the future I have always dreamed of is ripped from beneath me.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story and for any support you have already sent my way or will do in the future xx

I have set up an Instagram page so that you can all follow my journey and also to help raise awareness. Cancer does not discriminate. It can happen to anyone of us at any time. Follow cancer_on_a_post_it to support me, support you.
