Roseanne Vanessendelft’s Cancer

Donation protected
The Diagnosis
On July 6th Roseanne went for a gynecological check up and her doctor found a small mass in the uterus.   A sonogram confirmed the mass and surgery to remove it as well as perform a hysterectomy were scheduled.  The day of surgery, September 4th, it had grown to 14 inches long!  It was a much more aggressive cancer than had been thought.   Roseanne’s cancer had gone from a stage 2 to stage 4 in only two months!
Shortly after, further tests and scans revealed that Roseanne has 13 tumors in different areas of her body!

The Plan
Roseanne has a GREAT team of six doctors planning, overseeing and managing her care. They assure her that they will not “sugar coat things” and will be completely honest with her. The doctors feel sure that the combination of chemotherapy and radiation they are giving her works! She and her family have been told that they truly expect that after treatments are done Roseanne will be cancer free!!
Monday, October 15th, was her first chemo treatment. She will need to have five more additional treatments. Every day since then, she has had radiation treatments. She needs to have a total of 14 radiation treatments.

The Cost
Financially, this is a huge burden.  There is a $35 copayment for each of the 14 radiation treatments. The chemotherapy copayments are $20,000 each. The care staff have helped Roseanne apply for financial assistance to help with the cost of this. It will help of course but there is no assurance of amount.
Roseanne’s household consists of her and her two children in their 20s, Ashleyrose and Winston. Roseanne hasn’t been able to work in a few months and she didn’t have the type of job that compensates in this situation. She is on disability but it is only a small amount. Ashleyrose and Winston are putting in as many hours as they can at their jobs and are doing all they can. The family needs help with the household bills.

How is Roseanne?
Physically, she is in a lot of pain. One of the tumors is in her hip and is really hurting. The treatments are really rough as well. She’s been pretty sick from them.  It’s draining and she is sleeping a lot. Thankfully though, one week of radiation down as of today!
Emotionally, if you know Roseanne you know that she has this amazing combination of strength, humor and compassion!  She’s one tough and determined woman! She’s always been one of the hardest working people any one knows! Roseanne has always worked her tail off to provide and do her very best.  She does whatever she can for others and can always make us laugh!  Regardless of being ill, she is still all these things.
Spiritually, she’s thriving! She trusts the Lord completely and is continually growing in her faith through this. He had opened opportunities through this for her and the family to pray with others and share their faith!

How to help?
There are several ways to help. Obviously financial help is needed. Don’t let the number seem overwhelming. Every bit helps, whether $5 or $500, it is needed and valued.  For anyone concerned, GoFundMe costs are relatively low. They take 2.9% of total raised and .30 of each donation amount, NOT per dollar.  By all means though if you would rather give her money a different way, that is an option. Just let us know what you are comfortable with.
Please send her cards and notes of encouragement. This can sometimes be a lonely journey at times. Maybe send her some verses from the Bible to keep her eyes on Him.  The best way to contact her is through Facebook right now.
Right now they are getting a few meals a week from family and friends. Anymore than a few is actually too much. If you are interested in helping with this in the future, maybe you can let her kids or sisters, Kathleen and Debbie know.
The biggest and most important way to help Roseanne right now is by praying.  Pray alone, pray with your families, pray with your Bible Studies, small groups, prayer chains and in your churches! Pray continuously and fervently.
