Help Rik

Erik is our stray cat that came to us on the 23rd of December, 2015. We had no idea where he came from or whose he cat he may be. We took him to the vet that night to be assessed and they told us he was extremely malnourished, dehydrated and that his frostbite was so bad that we would lose the tips of his ears. We thought of him as our Christmas Cat and introduced him to the rest of the animals.   He’s best friends with Bailey, enemies with Meow Meow, and a mentor to Dwayne. 

A month ago we noticed some behavioural changes and after a urinalysis discovered that he is a “crystal cat”. Meaning his body forms crystals in his urine. This makes it difficult for him to urinate as it can be painful.  Crystals can and has been treated with veterinarian prescribed food and medication.  

He was responding well to the medication and changes in his food.  We were monitoring him constantly. Thing weren’t exactly back to normal but he was in alright shape. Then we started noticing there was blood in his urine. Back to the vet we went.

 After an X-Ray it was discovered that Erik has bladder stones.   Some of the stones are small enough to potentially pass, others will not.   We asked for a quote for surgery and it will cost between $1500-$2500. 

We just want him to feel better and get back to being himself.
