Help Rescue Horses at M&M Acres

M&M Acres Equine and Farm Animal Rescue and Sanctuary (M&M Acres) is located in Lockport, Illinois and has been operational for almost three years. Our organization is dedicated to rescuing horses from kill pens, as well as any animals in situations of unwant, neglect, and abuse. We believe in the power of second chances; that all animals deserve an opportunity to feel loved and secure through fostering trust in the animal-human relationship.

What started as a small-scale operation is now a rescue that is at maximum capacity. There are so many unwanted horses that end up with the unfortunate fate of being slaughtered, but M&M is trying to save as many horses as possible, to train and rehabilitate them, and find them forever homes.

The more horses we rescue, the higher our operating costs go. Until we obtain our 501c3, we are relying solely on generous donations from those individuals who feel connected to our mission – to inspire and educate the community while providing second chances to animals through rescue and rehabilitation.

Here are some brief stories of a few M&M rescues:

- Mirage (horse) – sent to a kill pen with her eye sewn shut and an IV bag in her neck; upon arrival at M&M, her entire eye had to be removed; although she has one eye, she has been fully rehabbed and can even run barrels!

- Maximus (horse) – was walked over to the property because the owners didn’t want him; they said his name was “Stupid Horse;” he could barely walk and almost had to be humanely euthanized; he was fully rehabbed and is now a unicorn for itty-bitty riders at our Unicorns and Princesses fundraiser!

- Daniel (horse) – (**Pictured**) had both eyes gouged out in a kill pen by humans; we believe Daniel was protecting his herd and the humans working the kill pens did not like that so they took his eyes; he is still working on gaining weight and navigating the world with no sight, but he is one of the friendliest horses at our facility and has placed an unbelievable amount of trust in the volunteers working with him!

- Dax (pig) – lived chained under a porch for two years and only tossed scraps; he was aggressive at first, but our pig expert worked with him and now he is used in our public events; he loves to follow around his favorite volunteer when she is cleaning the pen and loves his belly scratches!

Rescuing large animals in an expensive endeavor. Below is a breakdown of how your donation will help the rescue animals of M&M Acres:

- Hay for our rescues (we spend $2,000 per month)
- Feed for our rescues (we spend $500 per week)
- Farrier services for our rescues (we spend around $1,600 every seven weeks)
- Veterinary services (we spend $200 per horse)
- Dental workups (we spend $150 per horse)
- Emergency medical expenses (unexpected expenses often arise when dealing with rescues)
- Supplements (we would like to get more of our rescues on the supplements, but need the funding to do so)
- Bills (with winter coming, we will have higher electric bills and heating bills to keep our animals comfortable, in addition to our existing bills for our barn/facilities)

Every little bit helps – we appreciate you taking the time to read about our rescue operation and hope you consider making a donation! We cannot thank you enough – every donation helps us move forward in our rescue efforts.
