Help with recovery from the Queens sewer failure

On the Saturday after Thanksgiving, a sewage line in Queens near JFK Airport backed up and flooded nearly 300 houses, including the home of one of my dearest friends, Camille Lofters. 

The flood caused severe damage, and the Health Department is asking people to evacuate while the cleanup happens. Mayor Bill de Blasio has sent in the Office of Emergency Management. The Red Cross is also on the scene.  

Camille's  basement flooded to knee level with raw sewage, destroying childhood memories like her late father's sheet music  and her library of kids books.

While the City says it is providing pumps, the Health Department is recommending professional cleaning services to fix the aftermath, and insurance is likely not to cover the damage.  And the City is already trying to blame the blockage on the residents of the neighborhood (see the NYTimes article below), instead of the buildup of hotels and high rises in the area. As this happened in a mostly Black and Brown neighborhood, the response has not been what it would have been in the Upper East Side. 

Raw sewage carries life-threatening diseases like E. coli, shigellosis, typhoid fever, salmonella, and cholera, which can be airborne past the point of where the flood occurred. Camille's elderly mother, who just left the hospital after suffering from heart and lung issues, is in need of care and likely an alternate place to stay.  

The bill is estimated to be $7-10 a square foot, and is going to run in the thousands of dollars. We need to help Camille and her mom afford the services needed to clean up and restore her home, and take care of living expenses in the meantime.
