Help Raul

Hello, my name is Lucian Panescu and I want to share my story with you about my son Raul who is 8 years old and facing something no boy should ever have too.

I moved from Romania to Dublin in 2000 with my wife Marilena. On 19th October 2009, our beautiful son Raul Robert Panescu was born and we were ‘over the moon’ with his arrival. Life was very good and we were a complete as a family. At the time, I was working in Superdry, Dublin and this is where I met my good friend and ex-manager Kate who has been wonderful in helping us with sharing this story and fundraising.

In 2015, we noticed our son started to get terrible rashes all over his body and so we took him to our local GP in Sandyford, Dublin. It was explained to us that access to the sunny climate would really help Raul’s skin condition so as a family, we made the decision to move to Tenerife in August 2016.

In June 2017, Raul became unwell again and we went to a private clinic where further tests were undertaken. It was from these tests that we found out, our beautiful 7-year-old son was diagnosed with Nueroblastoma 4, a Cancer which is extremely rare for over 5 year olds. As parents, we felt our world collapsing.

We frantically researched and had to stay focused to get our son the very best treatment available and after much research, we found Helios Clinic based in Berlin, Germany. This was renowned for the treatment needed for Raul.

Flying to Berlin, we were extremely lucky to have the opportunity for Raul to get the treatment. On the 5th December 2017, he started the 5 sessions of chemotherapy which was to try and shrink the tumour, which then followed a 10-and-a-half-hour surgery. This was the hardest time of our lives as we knew Raul was not at his strongest point due to the previous treatments of chemotherapy, which he had received.

After two weeks in intensive care, Raul began to make slow but steady recovery.

Raul is now continuing his treatment and checkups at Nino Jesus Hospital, based in Madrid and under the care of Dr. Francesco Bautista. This has been a huge struggle for my family but we are confident that we can fight this together.  I have always been a hard working person, a provider and pride does eat into me but unfortunately we cannot do this alone.

We need your help! However small, we would really appreciate any token of donations through our fund page to ensure our family can continue to maintain the travel to Madrid and care for Raul’s visits. We really appreciate any help. Over the last few weeks, we have been overjoyed at the response from friends and family who are helping us with fund raising events and we cannot thank them enough!

Thank you from my wife, Raul and myself for taking the time to read our story and we pray we get the help needed for our beautiful boy. A big thank you from our heart for anyone who has donated.
