Help PTMS Get Fired up with a Kiln

Tax deductible
The Pittsgrove Arts and Education Foundation, a non-profit organization, has launched a fundraiser to raise money for a new and improved kiln at the Pittsgrove Township Middle School (PTMS).

At Pittsgrove Township Middle School, the kiln is a strong part of the visual art curriculum. The old kiln is no longer in functioning order, and needs to be replaced with a newer, updated model. Without a kiln, ceramic art would no longer be possible.  Ceramic Art is a hands-on learning activity that is beneficial to the engagement, and development of any middle school student.  With budget limitations, and the cost of everyday art supplies, the kiln is simply unaffordable.

The Pittsgrove Township School District will be funding the replacement costs of the current kiln. Our goal, however, is to purchase an upgraded model that has a larger capacity and greater efficiency rating. The Pittsgrove Arts and Education Foundation’s goal is to raise $1,500 which will support the upgrade costs for this latest model. This is not just any kiln, this is a kiln that will last for several decades of use. The kiln chosen is a L&L E28T Kiln. It is larger than the older kiln, with easy firing technology. It has a preset that makes sure that all of the clay objects are completely bone dry before firing. This will limit any possible breakage, and cracking of student's art.

There is no better moment for me than witnessing a student's indescribable joy as they form with clay. Students who work with clay are fully engaged, and focused while building their creations. Often the functional and durable nature of the finished stoneware clay gives students a feeling of significance, self-worth and pride. Working with clay also builds upon problem-solving skills and motor skills as students continue to understand shape, form, and perspective. Students learn to think independently on their own using the basic guided practices used by every ceramist.

We want to have the clay program back up and running by the beginning of the 2017-2018 school year. If we are able to meet our fundraising goals, all students who attend Pittsgrove Township Middle School will be able to have access to this incredible resource.  Art class will include ceramic art lessons for all grade levels.  We are incredibly thankful and grateful for any contribution that can be made.  Please consider making a donation, even a small one.  And don't forget to share us on your social media and other connections.
