Help Our Next Door Neighbor

Donation protected
Mike Harris is our neighbor. He and his wife Nicky lived in Anacapa View homes in Port Hueneme for years. Mike lost his job as a butcher when he was forced to care for terminally ill Nicky, who passed away at the age of 40. Mike was devastated as any of us would be.

He had lost his job, his wife, and eventually his home.

Homeless for the first time in his life, his heart health deteriorated and he was forced to live in his truck for over a month. Sleeping in his truck and showering at the gym caused a bout with acute cellulitis which could spread to his lymph nodes or bloodstream if left untreated.

Mike is now recovering but needs a lift up to get where he needs to get so that he can either recover and get a good paying job as a butcher locally, or just enough to get him to his brother's home in Oklahoma where a bedroom is open for him, and the possibility of a new start with a new job there. The cellulitis makes it so that he cannot stand for very long or walk long distances, so a full time job is not an option at this point.

Mike needs to pay his past due registration on his pick up truck, make his storage unit payment where he keeps his few things that he still has, and have enough to ship his things to Oklahoma. He also needs to pay his next truck payment if he doesn't turn it in on a voluntary repo. His worry is that if he's forced back onto the streets, he really needs the Truck for shelter.

Mike is now sleeping at a friend's home TEMPORARILY in Silverstrand, and has been helping out at the Brandon's Battalion Project Veterans Non-Profit Charity Thrift Shop in Port Hueneme, in order to earn gas and food money for now.

But Mike needs your help and is too proud to ask himself. I have gotten to know Mike a bit over the past few days and he is intelligent, caring, and hard working. He hit a pot hole in his life, but needs a lift. Please give what you can to help Mike reach his goal of getting healthy, getting a new job, and getting to a new life in Oklahoma. The smallest amount can be life changing, and Mike and his friends, both old and new, will be forever grateful to a community that cannot turn its back on one of its own that won't give up.

We need the funds now to catch up before his Truck is impounded and/or repossessed. It's his lifeblood right now. Please donate something, anything, this week so that we can help Mike to help himself.

Your help, your donation, and your prayers are appreciated!
