Help our Anguilla family

Donation protected
Hi Everyone,

As many of you know, our childhood home of Anguilla was hit by Hurricane Irma and now Hurricane Maria. Much of the island has been destroyed and our extended family and friends have been massively impacted; loosing roofs, homes, belongings, businesses and sources of income. The UK government, military and the red cross have been doing a great job at providing general relief and emergency supplies to the island. However, these supplies are very limited and not enough for individuals the long run.

We are going to do our best to personally support our Anguillan family and friends but given the magnitude of the help needed we feel it is going to need a larger collective effort to help them bounce back. So, we have decided to start a GoFundMe page to begin raising some money to help individuals in our circle of influence to re-build what they have lost.

How will the funds be used?
The funds raised will be used to buy food (tinned, long life produce), clothes (t-shirts, trousers, underwear), solar generators and building materials (cement, aluminum, wood, windows). Funds raised in addition to what is needed will be used to fund local community projects to grow or re-instate a supply of local produce. Such as initiatives from the Anguillan Agriculture Department to Grow and Eat locally. Or we are happy to ensure funds get allocated to someone or something specific you have in mind.

Along with the help that we raise in the UK, my sister will also be coming to the UK to work, she is now out of a job, but is eager to earn money to send home.

Who will it help?
So far we have identified a few individuals that would really benefit from our collective help. We ideally need around $30,000 to make a difference and get them back on their feet. But anything we can raise will help.

Our sister Seymoune has significant damage to her cement roof and lives in fear of it caving in. Our cousin Glenesha lost the wooden house she was living in and her belongings. Our brother Laurice lost his roof, windows and doors to his house and shop. Our Aunt Hertha has lost her roof. Our other sister Syrena has lost windows. A family friend Sheila has lost half her roof and will need materials to rebuild

How will the help get to Anguilla?
In terms of how we get the help to Anguilla, for those that need food and clothes, we plan to use the money to bulk buy and send at least a 3 months’ supply of tinned / long life items in a container from the UK. For the building materials, we have an account with a local builders merchant through which we can place orders and pay for the specific items required.

We will ensure all donations are fully accounted for.
In terms of providing assurance on how your donation will be used, if my husband James Martell (a registered UK lawyer SRA number 338106) isn’t enough assurance, we will also ensure that all transactions made with the funds raised are fully traceable and accounted for including receipts (perhaps there is an accountant among you that can volunteer help with verifications).

Let us know if you want your money to go to something specific.
Also, just to note that if you would like your money to go to something not outlined above then let us know either through the comments or private message and we'll make sure it is used as you wish.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this appeal.

Any help you can give is massively appreciated.
