-Vitals are normal, and strong
-He’s becoming more responsive to stimulus
-Lifting his head up by himself
-Moving his eyes around more
-Liver & kidney function is normal
-Urine is normal with no signs of myoglobin (muscle tissue) breakdown
-Blood sugar is normalizing at a consistent range between 100-120
-Started him on nutrition, and he’s responding well
-Hoping to discharge by Monday night!
-He started having multiple bowel movements a day... which is great news!!  This means his autonomic nervous system is working, and the odds of brain damage is not likely.
-Is vocalizing when he needs to use the bathroom!  Also a possible sign of healthy brain function.
-Blood clotting factor results were normal

Thank you all so much for your contributions, prayers, well wishes, kind words, love, and support!  This has been a traumatic, heartbreaking, challenging, and beautiful experience; quite the learning process to say the least .  He’s a strong joy, and is fighting, making progress, gradually each day.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts

Read on for more details...

Angelina Liguori and Dustin Ratisseau’s big puppy Orion, is a healthy 7 year old Cane Corso (Italian Mastif),  who is active, and loves to swim.  He is the sweetest big baby, sings like Chewbacca every morning just happy to be alive, so full of joy!  He started acting funny on Monday night, when Angelina got home from work. Thinking he probably ate something that made him not feel good, she sat with him through the night to make sure he was ok. Then early the next morning, with no history of any medical conditions, he had 2 full blown grand-mall seizures within 2 hours.

Upon further investigation we discovered that he ate leaves off 4 different house plants (big Aloe leaves, Peace Lilly leaves, Snake plant, and flowering ivy leaves).  These can all be toxic to dogs, and some can cause seizures individually, but when combined may have an even more powerful synergistic toxic effect.  Often just one leaf is enough to cause toxicity in many dogs, let alone a number of different plants combined, making a toxic leaf salad...he has always loved his veggies:(.

So, we believe his pancreas is pumping out too much insulin which caused his blood sugar levels to drop below 10 (extremely low), which made him violently hungry; enough to where he scavenged for plants.  Most likely, the plant toxins in combination with the low blood sugar triggered a seizure.

Thankfully, Under the care of the emergency pet clinic, they have been working hard to save him, and he is making progress!  His vitals are stable, urine looks good, breathing on his own, with more vocalizing instead of actual seizing.  It took a lot of intensive care to support him for the first few days, and over night, as he is a large dog at 160 lbs, and required much higher doses of anti-seizure meds, IV, and sedatives!!!

Due to the unexpected complications his medical bill has ballooned 5 fold compared to the initial quote given.  They have been so supportive, working tirelessly to figure out what happened, and we are so grateful they were able to save his life.

We’ve already paid about $7,500 and the total due for discharge is estimated at about $7,500.  They give a low and high end estimate Incase there’s any complications.

Donations/partial payment made directly to the clinic are preferred, as they can be directly applied to his minimum deposit and will ensure they can continue with any necessary treatment. This can be done over the phone by contacting Sierra Veterinary Specialists and Emergency Center, 24/7 at [phone redacted], and tell them your calling to support Angelina, Dustin, and Orion.

Just wanted to extend enormous gratitude for all the love.  I’m overwhelmed by everyone who has reached out to support in whatever ways they can...and our hearts are bursting!  Soo grateful that keeping him monitored is even an option!  We love and thank you all, and could not have made it this far without you! Please help get our sweet boy home.

Thank you for taking the time, all your love, prayers, and support.

With gratitude.
