Help one of our own - Joanne Miller
OK Mountain Neighbors and Friends, it is time for us to come together and help one of our own, Joanne Miller.
Many things have occured with Jo this year. A lot of loss. Divorce, moving out, having to rehome all of her chickens that she raised and lovingly cared for, and even some of her beloved pets because it is hard to find a rental that will allow you to have pets. For those of you lucky enough to know Jo, you already understand that these animals were part of her, not just "animals". That in itself was a huge loss and source of grief. As all of this was going on, her son was diagnosed with brain cancer. He moved home and Jo would be his caretaker as he went through chemo and radiation and even surgery. When the divorce happened, they had to move. They found a small apartment that they split the rent. It was the only way they could afford it.
He lost his battle and passed away on December 9th.
Now, Jo is left alone and will not be able to pay the rent.
Jo has done a lot for this community and has helped many folks and animals. This is not easy for her to be on the receiving end (but I wore her down to allow me to set this fund up to help her make ends meet).
1)Raise enough funds to enable her to stay in her place until the lease runs out this summer. She has enough grief and stress without worrying about how she will pay rent.
2) Raise enough funds to help her move yet again and hopefully have enough of a pet deposit so that she may keep her two dogs and cat.
She has lost so much this past year. Let's try to help her keep a roof over her head and her little ones with her and give her some peace of mind to allow her to grieve for her son and not have to worry about the rest right now.
Please contribute what you can and let's show her what we are all about - helping a neighbor in time of need.
Thank You So Much for Caring.
Today is Friday, January 27, 2017 and we have raised $6,747 for Jo. Thank you to everyone that has donated. Some have now, including me, donated a second time.
If you have the resources to do this, too, please consider making another donation. Let's get this fundraiser closed out. We are making a difference.
Thank you to all that have donated. You are amazing folks with generous hearts.

Happier New Year to everyone reading this. The incredible outpouring of support has certainly helped to make mine seem less anxious. I am humbly grateful for this daunting amount of money collected on my behalf in such a small amount of time. When I found my apartment last year it was after many months of active searching after many months of passively keeping my eyes and ears open. Crunch time hit and there wasn't a lot available and as anyone involved in real estate knows, prices were soaring. My landlords had many renters to choose from. They went out on a limb for Branden and me. I'm certain other potential renters looked better on paper and I told them all I could really bank on was my good name. After contacting my references they chose me. Me. That in and of itself gave me pause. It is very important to me that I honor that faith and trust these good people placed in me. They have shown utmost kindness in allowing me both my dogs, adding a fence. Always responsive in every way a landlord should be. And caring and compassionate throughout Branden's illness and passing. They are good and kind community members. They are out of state for several months now and not in a position to interview new renters. The help I receive here provides some stability for me going forward, to budget what would have been Branden's portion until I can better manage. This is huge. This week I have appointments to help me generate more income in addition to cleaning houses. I'm maxed out in the physical demands of maintaining my existing clients, all of which have been incredibly understanding and supportive throughout the trials of these past few years. Regardless of where I end up living, I just plain need more income and I'm eager to explore creative ways of doing just that. 2017 holds promise for all of us. Because of your help, I can step into it less fearful for my future and able to focus on standing strong once again in the face of the challenges it will reveal. I remain yours, in deep gratitude, Jo
I sit here looking at this incredible outpouring of love and support and I am filled with gratitude to all of you. I can not convey the sense of relief that has washed over me these past few days due to the love and care that you have all given to me. Please know that I will continue to strive to be the person you all have invested in going forward. And I will be there for another in a time of need, as you all have been here for me; in your contributions, in your words of encouragement and in your prayers for my wholeness. Jo Miller
