Help on the Way! Louie’s Recovery Fund...

As you may have heard, our dear friend Louie Perotti’s house just burned down. Luckily, everyone got out safely, but it went up very fast and is a traumatizing experience for him emotionally and financially. (This is made even more devastating in that he experienced his house burning down almost exactly 40 years ago .) Needless to say, Louie needs our help.
Many of you have asked what you can do. Some of you have stepped up to help him with his immediate needs and in the long recovery ahead. There are two primary ways you can best support Louie right now:
1. Reach out and connect. Losing your home is akin to losing your center. It can be very stressful and isolating. Just checking in and letting someone know you’re there for them can make a big difference during the recovery period. And if you can offer Louie a place to stay for a short period over the next several weeks, that would be super helpful.
2. Donate funds!! It’s hard to estimate how much money it will cost to get Louie on his feet. A fire destroys most things, and what doesn’t burn is ruined by smoke, ash and water. Some things this fund will help with are:
- Basic necessities, like clothes, socks, toiletries, etc.
- Supplies and services for salvaging, cleaning and protecting any personal items
- A storage unit for any salvaged, personal items and donated furniture
- Down payment and first month’s rent on a new place.
- Replacement furniture (bed, chair, dresser, etc.), kitchenware, pillows and linens.
- Moving truck/costs
- Legal fees
You should all know that Louie was very hesitant to ask for money from friends, family and allies. (This is obviously exactly the kind of situation where one’s greater community will be more than wiling to come together with all kinds of support.) It’s nonetheless humbling to ask for this kind of assistance.
