Donation protected
Oi! Welcome to my Go-Fund me Page!

My name is Ashaki “Nzingha” Hall and I am a MPH student at Morehouse School of Medicine.  I am a lusophone who is excited to learn about Afro-Brazilian culture and history.

In college, I took Brazilian Portuguese language and culture classes, and I absolutely loved them.  I enjoy learning about Afro-Brazilian culture, and my goal since college has been to travel to Brazil.

I have recently been accepted to study abroad in Brazil at GSU.  I have been invited to participate in a three-week public health intensive in Bahia, Brazil.

Salvador is the most representative city of the African continent in Brazil. It is the most Afro-based population in the world outside of Africa, over 80% of the population is from African background.

I am excited about this rare opportunity, as I will be traveling to Brazil with public health graduate students and experienced faculty.

The program is 3 weeks from June 29-July 23.  The program will consist of in class-instruction of various health topics such as health promotion and epidemiology. I will experience weekly public health field trips in the city of Salvador, cross-cultural lectures, and Portuguese Language instruction. This course will foster critical thinking and introduce learning about analytic tools and global approaches top public health research. Instruction will include professors from GSU, Federal University of Bahia, and Associacao Cultural Brasil-Estados Unidos.

Accommodations:

I will be participating in a homestay with a local Brazilian family where I have the opportunity to enhance my Portuguese Language skills and learn about Brazilian customs, culture, and cuisine. My homestay will provide laundry services as well as meals.

As a student at MSM, I was not able to qualify for financial aid at GSU.

That is why I am requesting your support.

I am asking for a total of $4,600 to help me get to Salvador.  I will need all of my funds by June 22Salvador Bahia , 2018.

Your support directly goes to:
