HELP ME HELP A VILLAGE SCHOOL IN NEPAL
Nepal is renowned for Mount Everest and the Himalayan mountain range. Due to the entire country's high altitude and mountainous terrain, it is also one of Asia’s least developed countries. Young children in nearby areas trek daily for up to 1 hour each way just to get to schools - such as this one.

My friends and I aim to raise funds to provide books and other educational resources for the students of the Laligurash Bright Future English Boarding School. We hope to help them build up their library so that these resources may allow them to widen their learning. Your kind and generous donations will go a long way to help the children's learning journey.

THE CHALLENGE
We will be trekking to Everest Base Camp (EBC) in Nepal (28°0′26″N 86°51′34″E). It is located at an elevation of 5,364 metres above sea level (17,598 ft).
The trek is planned for December 2019 and will take us from Kathmandu (at 1,400m/4,600ft elevation) then a flight to Lukla (2,800m/9,186ft). From Lukla, we will trek for 14 days to EBC and back.
Trekking the EBC brings risks not normally experienced at sea level. The concentration of oxygen (O2) at sea-level is 20.9%, compared to the concentration of oxygen at the peak of Mount Everest, which can be as low as 6% As you climb, the oxygen level decreases exponentially. At EBC, oxygen is about half of the amount we’re used to at sea-level. The risk of altitude sickness appears at around 2,000 metres (6,600 ft) above sea level and can be life-threatening if precautions are not taken.
Additional concerns when trekking in Nepal include earthquakes (last ones were in April & May 2015), landslides and avalanches. This is due to Nepal sitting on the boundary of two massive tectonic plates – the Indo-Australian and Asian plates. These plates - that shaped the Himalayas - collide to give the mountains their incredible heights.
