Dear friends, I need help. Asking for assistance is not my way, but now, I feel desperate. I am two semesters away from completing my degree, but right now, I cannot even register. Last Fall (2018), I expected to be awarded financial aid to cover tuition, books, and living expenses. I took out an emergency loan in anticipation of that forthcoming aid.
However, I found out afterthe fall term ended, that no money was coming to cover that loan, or fund the Spring 2019 semester. In fact, my quota of federal aid had been met and no money was coming to cover the loan for fall tuition already spent. Since I was unable to register for the Spring 2019 semester, my teaching assistantship was revoked.
For the past several months, I have been trying to find a new goal for my life, feeling like the financial fiasco was a sign that I did not need or deserve a doctorate. However, I still wish to work with visually impaired and blind college mathematics students, and to do that, I need that degree.
In order even to register for classes, I’ve got to have $5500 to pay for the loan. I expect to be teaching in high school beginning in Fall 2019, so I am not sure how to pay the $945 per semester that I will need to pay for one hour of college. Also, I have been looking without success for work to fill in until the fall term and the high school teaching job. It would be lovely to have help with living expenses.
