Help Needed - From Fighting Fit PT to Amputee

Donation protected
My name is Venessa and have a passion for fitness. As a personal trainer and duty manager for a gym, I love training hard and training others to achieve their goals.

I have lupus an auto immune disorder, and have managed to keep it under control up until now.  Lupus can attack any part of your body, however, it attacks my blood. Because of this I also have a  called anti phosphid lipid syndrome.  My blood and pallets are very think and sticky and with out daily medication I will create clots in my body.

Things went haywire on the 11th June 2019. I had a blue dusky toe and my foot was incredibly sore after a days work.  After many visits to the local GP and St Vincents emergency department I still had no answer as to what was causing my pain.

Not long after this I was back at emergency  complaining about the level of pain and finally got taken in through emergency department I had an angiogramplasty  which is a scan to check arteries and veins. They found an narrowing of my femoral artery in my right leg. This time Lupus didn’t effect the veins in my body but now my ateries.

Unfortunately my toes and the top part of my foot was not getting blood supply, I stayed in hospital in so much pain that I was crying and couldn’t sleep as the pain escalated.  I continued to let nursing staff and doctors know that I was getting worse, my fiancé Sonia was with me and we both were so frightened as I was in so much pain.

As time went by necrosis set in to my toes and upper foot.  I had massive blisters all over my toes and upper foot with purple and red discolouration. My toe beds were blue and my big toe started to go black. Before I knew it my mid calf was now not getting any blood supply as the tissue in my upper foot and toes were dead. I had the start of gangrene in my foot and my life now was at stake.

I was told by doctors that I would loose a few toes initially, however, as time went by necrosis or death of the tissue in my toes and upper foot had set in. The surgeon came in the next morning and said that my foot and toes could not be saved. I ended up with below the knee amputation.

Since then, my world has been turned upside down. I have mentally had to deal with the amputation of my leg and start the slow process of rehabilitation. There are ongoing medical bills whilst not being able to work.  I am also looking towards the future with the aid and support of a prosthetic leg.

I am staying strong with great support from friends, family and my gym buddies. Would kindly ask for your support to help me in my journey to get fit and strong and to be able to return to giving back and  training others and doing what I love.
