Help Nazlah Go Back To School

Donation protected
Hi everyone! I'm Nazlah Black, a young, professional theatre artist who has been accepted into a progressive and rigorous MFA program. However, I am in need of financial aid, I am seeking $5,000 in order to help pay my tuition and continue my artistic journey.

As a professional theatre artist my sole artistic mission is to convey truth through performance. With my passion and talent I aim to seek out new, revolutionary ways for art to represent and lift up society's marginalized communities. However, after two years of being out in the professional world and repeatedly being the only black female on set or onstage, I have decided to take my art into my own hands.

This fall I will be going back to school and working towards getting my MFA in Devised Performance from the Pig Iron School in Philadelphia. Thanks to this rigorous 2 year training course I will have the tools I need to finally start creating my own type of performance that more accurately represents me and my artistic mission. Also with this degree I will be able to lead workshops and give others the confidence to creatively express their own inner truths. However, after receiving the largest merit-based scholarship UArts has to offer and after taking out a hefty amount of federal direct loans, I am still 5,000 dollars short of my first year's tuition. So I'm asking you for help. Even a donation as small as 5 dollars would help me towards my goal of funding this next step in my artistic journey.

More About Me: I grew up in Atlanta, Georgia where after starring as Viola in my seventh grade production of Twelfth Night, I knew the theatre was where I was meant to be. As soon as I turned 18, I moved to Seattle, WA for cleaner air, mountain views, and to get my BFA. After graduating Magna Cum Laude with a BFA in Theatre from Cornish College of the Arts, I moved to New York City in order to jump start my career. Here I've experienced mild success starring in commercials, indie films, and classical theatre shows. I'm currently in a site-specific and immersive production of The Importance of Being Earnest as Gwendolen that will be going up in Long Island in May. Despite New York City being an incomparable source of creativity and excitement, I am definitely excited to explore Philadelphia and all that theatre scene has to offer.
