Prevent my friend from giving up

“My name is Dayem Saeed. I am from Lahore, Pakistan. When I was 12 years old, my father’s architecture company was shut down due to a falling out with his business partner, who later filed a fabricated lawsuit against him. Fighting these lawsuits bled us dry of all our finances over 3 whole years. Even after my father won the lawsuit, there was no way to get back the money we had lost and no way to restart his company without any money. On top of that, my father got sick with Hepatitis C and his treatment cost us the little money we had left. Despite these devastating events my family still went out of their way to send me to America for my undergraduate so that I can have a flourishing future. My parents took out loans and sold their car to gather enough money to pay for my first year of university, which amounted to around $40,000.

I worked hard on my part and was able to secure a $10,000 scholarship for my first year here at Washington State University. During my stay I worked over time taking 20 credit hours, working as a TA and didn’t even come back to Pakistan because of my financial issues and because i took the summer courses as well, since they were cheaper than if I were to take those courses during the fall. I have applied to a number of jobs here at WSU but because of visa restrictions I cannot work more than 20 hours a week and I also cannot work off-campus, which really limits me when it comes to paying my tuition. I can’t ask my parents for money because they don’t even have enough money left to send my younger brother to college and had him take a year off instead.

Seeing their situation has only made me want to work harder so I can repay them for everything they did for me, but if I can’t get enough money to stay here, I will have to go back to Pakistan with no future ahead of me and no way to repay my parents for the sacrifices they made for my future.

My dream is to graduate from here and pay my parents back for all that they did for me and also to help send my brother to university, a dream that he had to give up so that I could come here in the first place. Thank you in advance for any help you are able to provide.

God bless.”

This is my friend’s heartbreaking story. Due to a lack of finances, he is being forced to give up on his education and return to Pakistan unless he can get enough money to pay his tuition by the end of November 2018. He worked hard to keep a 3.2 GPA despite working long hours and dealing with his situation and it’s heartbreaking to see him have to leave. If someone could help out, it would make a real impact on his life and help him continue working towards his dream. Even $1 would make a huge difference.
