My Dad, Suresh Bajaj, had to go through a sudden brain hemorrhage surgery and is currently fighting the aftermath. He remains unconscious and in paralysis, 2 weeks after the surgery.

My dad was visiting me and my brother in the US from India. During his visit, he was found unconscious in the middle of the night and had to be rushed to an emergency room. A detailed diagnosis found brain hemorrhagic stroke causing significant bleeding inside his brain. The neurosurgery removed the clot and prevented his slip-in to coma. He is still in ICU sustained by a ventilator, feeding tubes and battling for his life to regain his senses.

The doctors think it would be a long road of medical treatment before he’d be able to take a flight back home and continue his recovery there. Unfortunately, he does not have insurance or savings to continue with his treatment.

The Backstory

My dad has always been one of the most healthy individuals for many who knew him. He hardly had any doctor visits or any medical condition. Though he was financially hard-pressed almost all his life, it was his faith, righteousness, and positivity that made him hang on even in the toughest situations. He is very devoted to his family, especially to us - his sons. He has been a pillar of support and strength.

It was supposed to be special few months ahead for us as a family - my brother and I moved to the US for short-term, my brother had a baby girl a few months back, and I have my Master’s convocation due this fall. There would have been moments of immeasurable joy for my dad to play with his granddaughter and watch her grow and he would have been really proud to see me graduate. This was also supposed to be my parents’ first international trip and we were really looking forward to these joyous times together and to see dad finally smile to the fullest. But not anymore..

The Costs

As of now, his right side is paralyzed and his occupational, speech and physical skills are lost to him. The hospital has asked us to look for skilled nursing facilities for his prolonged medical treatment which will be needed to bring him to a condition where he can fly back to India. These nursing facilities are expensive and cost 35000 dollars approx. per month and will have to be borne by us out of our pockets. As per the doctors, in the current situation, he would need 6 months of treatment here in order to make his body functional for international travel back to home and then continue his treatment there. We are not in a position to afford this huge sum of medical treatment in the US. My brother has just moved 9 months back to the US and has a family to support and I am studying on an education loan. Right now, we do not have enough savings to sustain this medical treatment.

How You Can Help

We are calling for your help in generously donating to our cause in bringing back order in my dad’s life. He is only 56 years old and I wish for him to see a lot more that life has to offer. But it can only be possible with all your support, donations and prayers. Every penny will help us reach closer to our goal. Even if you are not able to donate, please share it with your social circles as it may reach out to the ones who can help with donations. We will share updates on a regular basis on his treatment, recovery and fund utilization.

Hi everyone, it was heartening to receive such a tremendous response to our request for help. It was only because of your prayers and support that we are able to share a positive update today: Dad is not on a ventilator now and is able to breathe on his own. Though there is still no movement in his neck muscles and his right side is paralyzed, which means he can’t talk, eat or move. Due to this, he had to undergo another surgery wherein a PEG tube was inserted in his stomach for food and medication until he begins eating. He will have to undergo long term therapies to be able to go back to India. The hospital management has started to build pressure on us to have him discharged and moved to a nursing facility asap. We’d request you all to keep the momentum going and help raise more funds and achieve our goal so that we can confidently move him to a nursing care for his uninterrupted treatment.

Heartfelt gratitude for standing with us in our testing times.
