HELP ME START WALKING INDEPENDENTLY...

Hi, my name is Michal and I’m 8 years old. I was born at 35 weeks gestation by emergency caesarean section due to abnormal CTG.

Because of cardiac problems and a cleft lip and palate, I was intubated and ventilated at birth. In the third day of my life I had serious heart surgery in the Great Ormond Street Hospital in London where I spent 4 weeks on Cardiological Intensive Care Unit. After this I was discharged and moved to the Luton and Dunstable Hospital where I spent next 2 months on the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. It was very difficult time for me and my family, and I saw my home first time when I was 3 months old.

When I was 7 months old, I was diagnosed of right hemiplegic Cerebral Palsy, so I started my journey with physiotherapy. It has helped me to get stronger and more confident with world around me. Now, I can walk with the support of a posterior Nimbo Walker and walk independently for short distance with assistance an adult. Because of the cerebral palsy and cleft, I’m unable to chew and bite, so my food must be pureed and at any time I need someone who help me with daily routine things such as eating, washing, dressing, bedding etc.

I’m lucky that I have support from physiotherapists and occupational therapists from NHS, unfortunately this is only one hour per week available in this service. So, since 2014, I’m supporting with the private physiotherapy sessions.

This is extremely important to do intensive and regular physiotherapy to keep improving my independently walking and other mobility and selfcare skills. My parents try as much as they can to support me with a private physiotherapy session and they want to give me the best possible opportunity for the future.

My biggest dream is walk, play and eat like other children around and I still believe that this can happen. Together with physiotherapists and my family we do everything to make my dream come true.

If you can help me, please support me with the cost of the private physiotherapy sessions.
