Help Leia get Better

Donación protegida

My name is Cara and I was lucky enough to spend Christmas 2016 at Galgos Del Sol in Spain. The charity is dedicated to saving abandoned galgos and podencos, over 50,000 are abandoned each year, it is horrific. When I was there they had around 150 rescued dogs. I helped clean, walk, do enrichment work and care for a sick litter of puppies. During my volunteer trip I fell in love with one of Rimu's puppies called Parsnip. We adopted her but I had to wait 6 weeks for her to grow a bit more and finish her injections before she could come home. Parsnip and her siblings were born on the streets, her rescue video is attached. All the puppies had a bad start in life before being rescued. They had poor nutrition and lots of anxiety about their uncertain future. Two of the siblings were blind, one later died and one survived. It was a huge battle for the rescue to keep them all well. Why am I writing this GOFUNDME? Parsnip, now named Leia arrived to the UK and had a slightly bent leg. All the puppies in this litter that have had a rough start have had wobbly bumpy legs but this one particular leg showed signs of more problems. Over the next week as she grew the wonky leg got more prominent and was later diagnosed with a premature closing of the Distal Ulnar growth plate which required an operation (letter of diagnosis also attached). This problem is hard to predict as it is effectively a growth issue so not detectable until they start becoming lanky teenagers. There were no signs of any pain whilst she was at Galgos del Sol so it seems timing was bad as two weeks later when the leg problem was more prominent GDS were disappointed as they would have certainly operated before sending her to the UK. We are now struggling to pay this vets bill and as the UK prices are more expensive than Spain's vet prices GDS are also struggling to pay and we would feel bad asking when they have so many other sick street dogs yet to rescue and care for. I'm asking if you can spare a few euros to help us today with Leia our rescue Galga from Spain? We love Leia no matter how she comes but did not expect this big bill on her arrival and it has taken us by surprise.
The op has totalled £2500 so far and unfortunately she may need it redone up to twice more. This will totally depend on her recovery and also her rate of growth.

FROM GDS -
We were so disappointed to miss the problem on Leia's leg whilst she was at GDS especially after all they and we went thru to rescue them and keep them well and safe. Our trauma vet said its very hard to know about this problem until they start growing but still it saddens us that we would send a dog that would immediately in the first few weeks cost an adopter so much money. We did offer to bring her back to Spain (courtesy of a free transport by Ibizan Hounds Rescue) where we could do the operation but thats not ideal for Leia or the adopters and we understood why they wouldn't want this. Galgos del Sol simply cant afford to pay the whole bill so we are appealing for your help. Can you spare a cup of coffee today to help Leia? It would help GDS, this little princess and her new family, just a few euros can make such a big difference. Thank you. Rimu, Leia and her siblings rescue
