Hi Everyone!
I’m in a really rough spot, and I need help :/.
As many of you may know, I recently graduated this past May with a master’s in Diversity & Equity from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
Paying for school and the related expenses was really rough on me this past year and because of that, I’m in a really rough spot right now with money and can’t believe that I’m now at risk to lose many of the accomplishment I’ve worked hard for.
In just one short week, I’m supposed to move to California to work at the University of the Pacific as a Residence Director, a job I’ve been looking forward to since before graduation, though I don’t have the money to get there. If I can’t arrive to campus by August 1st, I’ll have to forfeit not only the job and a future steady income, but also housing (as it comes with the role.
It’s embarrassing, but I’m also at risk of being homeless again as my current apartment’s lease ends on July 31st, and if I can’t get to Cali before then, I would lose many of my belongings for a lack of not having a means to store or ship them, and am not exactly sure how I’ll survive with Jela (my cat) outside.
I’ll admit that I waited very late to ask for help, but I thought I would be able to pull through on my own by now, yet that hasn’t been the case.
The budgeted amount will solely go towards the one-way flight, shipping expenses from Illinois to California for my things, and to be able to buy food before my first paycheck, should I be able to get to work.
I can also 100% guarantee that I will pay back any donated money before October 1st for anyway that would like to be paid back (which is my preference) and will forever remember those that help out as the good people that were able and willing to help out when I have less than $20 to my name - a gesture I would not take lightly.
It is my belief that I have a personal mission to become a better leader, and engage in the social justice work within higher education that many are often afraid to do, and I am humbly asking my community to help me continue to advocate for those that struggle to advocate for themselves.
