Kununurra Kids To Sydney Dec 2018

Donation protected
Students in Year 7 from the remote town of Kununurra in the East Kimberley recently participated in their inaugural year of the FIRST Lego League robotics program. In November they competed for the first time in the regional championships in Darwin.   The FIRST LEGO League theme for 2018 has been ‘Into Orbit’.  The Kununurra team name is Lock ‘n Load and they designed their team logo from scratch.

The FIRST LEGO League demonstrates a range of elements from STEM (Science, Technology,
Engineering and Mathematics) and exposes students to complex problem solving using coding programs and LEGO-based robots.

In the recent Regional Championships, out of 24 participating teams, Kununurra won first place, providing them entry to the National championships to be held in Sydney in December 2018. This is an incredible opportunity for our students, many of them never having travelled outside of Western Australia. It is also testament to to the hard work of teachers and students, putting in many hours after school and in their own time.

The Kimberley is very remote - our closest major city is Darwin at 850km away. Travelling can not only be logistically challenging, but also expensive. For the team of six students and four adults we are looking at a minimum of $20,000 to raise for flights and accommodation.

This amazing chance for our students to travel to the East Coast will only be made possible by generous donations from far and wide! Please any donation would be gratefully received. Even $2 would help so much, thank you!!
